I've been playing it the past couple days, it's a really solid game with a ton of polish and little touches here and there that show they definitely spent that fucking AAA budget. It's definitely 'blockbuster' though, with extended action setpieces you complete by pressing like two buttons.
The combat is fun, more fun than an Arkham game or any of the Spiderman games listed Web of Shadows still beats it but it's got very little depth and is mostly flash. I play on the hardest difficulty and it's kicked my ass a couple times but it swiftly displayed that there's not much to do beyond your standard attacks that get introduced like three hours in.
Swinging is a lot of fun and actually attaches to buildings, not Spiderman 2 levels but pretty close. Side activities are repetitive but all feed into the gameplay loops of swinging around and beating the shit out of dudes.
I'd say it's like a 6 or 7 out of 10 for open world games but if you're a Spiderman fan it'll be like an 8 out of 10. The story is pretty good so far, even though it's trying to shove Miles fucking Morales down my throat right now, I don't know if it totally falls apart down the line but I actually really like this Peter and the villains so far. I really, really, hope it doesn't try to shove Miles down my throat more than it already is, they've given him a slightly better backstory than in the comics but fuck me I hate that spic nigger faggot so much that if they make me play as him or focus the story on him I'll break this goddamn disk over my knee.

If they really wanted to include a non-white male Spider-Man all they had to do was include May, Miguel or (if they wanted to be really crazy) Peni. Sorta like Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time did. Driver: Parallel Lines showed that multiple time periods of the same open world could be done really well. You could avoid outright time travel by framing the Spider-Man segments as Peter telling May about some old adventures he had that seem linked to her current foe (you could start and end these freely by talking to Peter in May's time or using the bed in Peter's).

It's literally a copy-and-paste of Bamham combat, right down to shit like stun + beatdown on armored enemies, stun + aerial attack on shield-wielding enemies, multi-takedowns, etc, except now you can do that shit in mid-air. I'm honestly amazed at how much Insomniac blatantly ripped off Rocksteady and still managed to fuck it up.

It's not, it's because we haven't had a game with swinging mechanics like that since Web of Shadows that it's nice to see a return to form. I've been playing it and no, when you get high enough your webs don't attach to anything and you're forced to drop down far enough before they'll attach again. Certain attacks attach to nothing, like the web kick, but that's only in combat.
I don't know about the story yet, I haven't seen it all, but so far I'm enjoying it.

I feel like this game is getting too much praise for just doing a copy-paste of the arkham games.The arkham games went to shit as time went on but if you look at arkham asylum the devs really went for gameplay that fits batman.
What's the point of making a spiderman game with gameplay that was not designed with spiderman in mind.I remember looking at the first gameplay and it was predator mode batman shit. Is spiderman always sneaking around thugs taking them one by one?
The combat also seems off, i saw spiderman beating the shit of thugs to the point they would be fucking dead not unconscious, all to make flashy combat moves… Making the combat just like the arkham games is lazy unimaginative garbage.

She is pretty fucking bad tbh, at one point she wonders into a base full of armed assholes, she meets some scientist dude she needed to question, but due to the fact that someone did make an attempt at his life beforehand so he pulls a gun on her, she had told Peter a few seconds before breaking in that she was breaking in, he told her that was stupid, don't do it, she doesn't listen, he comes in to see she has a gun pointed at her, so he grabs her and gets the fuck out, in which she fucking shouts at him, that she broke up with him because he kept in her words "babying her" and that he fucked everything up, the game tries to paint him as the bad guy here without pointing out that if she actually told him from the start that she wants to have a chat with the guy and he was at that base, he would have gotten him to her and she would have gotten her answers. As far as fighting game stories went Mortal Kombats was pretty good until the reboot. The reboot it's self wasn't too bad either with Raiden becoming the god of fucking everything up, it's just MKX when it fell headfirst into a bottomless cesspit with the nu-gen diversiteam.

I thought Shijinko's story was rather good, personally. I mean, it made no sense why every damn person bent over backwards to teach him how to fight, but the rest of it, the grand scheme, the passing of years and the slow creep of wisdom was all rather poignant. Batman doom is a pretty kickass and complex mod for doom released in the late 90s that's definitely worth playing. Might not work properly depending on which source port you're using or if you're using vanilla doom. Thankfully patches have been released over the years.
