When's the last time you treated yourself, /ck/? I don't even mean going out for a nice meal with someone else; I mean going out alone and spoiling yourself with a nice meal? I decided to celebrate my unemployment/freelance life with a meal tonight, and decided to take some pictures.
I started out with a cocktail. it was the restaurant's take on a greyhound, and had black peppercorn infused vodka, pink grapefruit juice, soda water, and a dash of fresh lemon juice.
then I moved on to some cheese, I got a tomme that is from a creamery a few counties away, and it came with a fresh chevre and pear butter, which paired with the nutty tomme beautifully. I had a house merlot with this.

I dont have money anymore so I wouldnt have a nice dinner anyway… I cant remember if ive ever had a nice meal alone ever like this and im 30. About a month ago I had a burger and beer at Hoolihans cause it was half off or some shit. Thats as close as Ive come.
Does getting drunk alone count? I found a 30 year old bottle of single malt scotch not long ago and drank it. It actually tasted like shit, the cork was starting to dissolve into the liquor but I needed a drink. I held back tears and played with the dogs that night.

>go to a site that offers discounts for various services, such as hotels, aquaparks, or, in my case, food
>buy a coupon online that offers a 40% discount on two meals in a fairly classy restaurant in the center of town
>put on a tuxedo and hit the town in the evening
>arrive there, present the coupon I bought
>the staff is really nice, they get me to my seat
>it's a table for two, already set up
>they ask me when is my date arriving
>I tell them I am here alone
>theirfaceswhen.jpg
>first, I order a nice bowl of lobster bisque
>I follow up with a lamb shoulder, potato purée and cranberry sauce
>I finish with a chocolate fondant and cappucino ice-cream and, plus a glass of wine from a local vineyard
>I finish my food and pat my belly
>the staff is a bit weirded out, but manage to keep a straight face
>they ask me if that will be all
>I smile and tell them to come back in 30 minutes, as I will be ordering a new round
>they look at me like a took a shit in the middle of the restaurant
>for the remaining time I go to the bathroom, play with my wine glass and generally act smug/pleased
>now I ordered - veluté from white asparagus for soup, salmon on olive oil, with crunchy bacon, with pureé (again) as the main course, and for the finale I chose a small white chocolate cake
>no wine this time
>finish and the waiter clears my table
>leave a generous tip for him
>waddle out of the restaurant, feeling like a God
And that's the story how I treated myself to a nice dinner without anyone interrupting my meal(s).

I want to believe this happened.
I want to eat at my favorite mexican place but I did there one time years ago and felt super akward being alone. The girl waiting on me was cute as hell which made it worse cause she asked why I was alone. I "joked" that I dont have any friends left. She laughed and came by to refill my water like 8 times. Feels sweaty, man.

If someone asks why you're alone, that gives you full permission and responsibility to go full lecher mode and start hitting on them the entire time you eat.

Im a 35yo kissless virgin
Every time I go out to eat - I eat alone
For a long time this bothered me especially in my 20s. Then I just reached a point where I try to stay hidden because nothing good will happen to me. I still dress decently just in case someone ever wants to chat with me as we eat dinner (Has never happened in my whole life. Movies and tv shows made this seem that any single woman would find the single guy eating alone and chat him up. never works like this i guess)
There is a facet in today's society that has a small disdain for thoseeating alone I will admit. Ive often gotten weird looks by waiters when I say i am eating by myself and I seem dispensable to anyone sitting near me.
Ive had a whole table use my portion of my table for their finished dishes and nobody seemed to care that i was still eating. Ive had this happen on more than one occasion. I dont want to make a scene but it bothers me that people in groups feel their needs and orders are superior and more important than mine.
Ive never had any friends but I wish I could have just one merry meal with company. I like to people watch a bit but I rarely do that anymore now since I know others dont like me looking at then because I am so ugly.
Thanksgiving will be coming up shortly. Probably going to a Dennys and eating there for dinner or an Ihop. They are usually open
I wont lie and say Im just going for the food. Im kinda hoping someone will take pity on me and volunteer to sit beside me and we converse. Even just sitting next to me as we watch the tv in silence is good enough for me. I want to feel as if I am a human and not some kind of invisible creature that you pass by
Just once

Fuck, man. Have you tried sitting at the bar? I do that when Im alone and want something to eat. You can talk to the bartender, there is usually a TV, talk to the other people at the bar alone like you.

OP here, you should listen to >>7797.
just go to any fairly nice place with a one page food menu and separate drink menu and you'll have an awesome time just sitting at the bar by the kitchen. no matter how awkward you think you look it's totally normal and the bartender will probably chat you up as long as you don't go on a busy night or drop your spaghetti as soon as you order your first drink

One of the local colleges has a thanksgiving dinner for students who aren't going home to be with family.
Long-running city tradition is that a lot of other people show up from around town - empty nest older adults, young families that don't want to cook. and single people from around town (including students who can't manage or don't want to travel, and 35yo kissless virgins).
Might check if something like that exists near you.
Or, volunteer at a soup kitchen. Can be a unique way to see another side of humanity.

Speaking as someone who used to help run one, volunteering at soup Kitchens on Thanksgiving is the ultimate cancerous activity.
They get an overflow of applicants, so they all end up getting in each other's way, they have no idea what they're doing so everything just gets slowed down, and everyone wants to be servers, not do any work, and just feel good about themselves.
If you're gonna volunteer for a soup kitchen, please start on a non-holiday, and try to go on a regular basis.

Yeah, I would just do whatever I'm told, not go trying for some "sexy" station.
I had literally* no idea that you could go help out on non-holidays and get that good feeling of accomplishment at other times of the year.
I suppose hungry people like a meal, no matter what day it is.
*Fine.. Figuratively.

The notion of helping people all year, instead of just on major holidays, is unusual.
Our lonely guy could actually meet people and make friends every week? Wow. What a concept.

My sarcasm detector is off, but yeah.
Usually your best bet is to find a Church organization like the Sunday Breakfast Mission. Some of them only organize meals weekly, but others do 3 meals a day, as well as offering education and other services.
There's usually a lot of unsexy stuff like Data Entry that no-one volunteers for, but even volunteering for meal service on non-holidays is pretty useful.
If you can't find a soup kitchen in your area, the best bet is to ask around at your local Church for service opportunities. Despite how bullshit religion is, the Catholics have a lot of great outreach programs.

If I'm going into town on a friday evening to do something I usually go for dinner in town - and since currently no gf, that means eating alone
My fav places is a delish 30 year old shawarma place. Fucking epic.
Alternatively, then a guilty pleasure of mine is cheap and filthy chinese buffet. Like, dirt cheap, just gorge myself in sweet & sour pork, battered prawns, and if its a good cheap chinese buffet place then it'll have shitty sushi as well - love that shit - I just don't do it that often. maybe once every six months.

i'm glad you caught that. look how astute you are! actually i chose to get drunk the next night, the night after that, and pretty much every night until now, pretty much a full month after making the thread. since then i've gotten another salary offer (and gotten even more drunk), so i guess eat a dick? people are allowed to celebrate whatever they want, and when my lawsuit clears up you can bet your sweet ass i'm gonna be gorging on fancy food again but on my last employer's dime.

Whenever I eat alone, I bring along a book or the puzzle section of the newspaper. To me, for some reason, it comes across as less lonely than diddling on a phone or tablet. I guess it's because it looks more like you're enjoying your time rather than trying to pass the time.
But I genuinely enjoy doing things alone, so maybe I just feel differently about it. Sometimes you just need some time away, even from the significant other.
