Humans are ground spirits.

“By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, from which you were taken; For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Genesis 3:19

“God then said: What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!”

Genesis 4:10

Just thought it was interesting. I read late Augustine believed human spirits have a pre-conception origin and saw Fr. Ripperger say dust is a symbol for man.

Dust is associated with humility, which is the tying link to most of these. I agree, this is an interesting connection you've found.

We are entirely reliant on God. He literally formed us out of dust and gave us life through Adam.

OT Israelites had a tradition to tear their clothes and throw dust on themselves in prostration

In mourning they put ashes on their heads too.

Augustine took a pretty wild allegorical view of a lot of stuff, I would read it with a tablespoon of salt.

Augustine had very good reasoning for his beliefs though. He said the human soul must pre-exist in order for a human to be born with original sin. Solomon also said this which implies souls enter bodies of equal quality.

That leads me to believe that the jews have one standard for themselves and an inverted standard for outsiders.

Good observation. I wonder how many other jewish agendas are hidden in obscure symbolism like this.
