Should a Christian affirm mere coincidence?

I see 3 possible positions

>God never supernaturally causes events

>God may supernaturally cause any event

>God always supernaturally causes every event

Reformed people say 3

2edf09  No.1136

The problem I see is people assuming 3 and overspiritualizing everything, thinking that they're more pious for it. They'll try to read into some conversation they had as if there's a lesson from God, when perhaps it's just a natural event.

They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: – Jeremiah 19:5

As it is said of God; far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

This isnt a question of free will, this is about coincidence. If a seemingly natural set of events work together, is it actually God's authorship?

>If a seemingly natural set of events work together, is it actually God's authorship?

The immediate answer to this is that it could be. The caveat to this is that God is not the author of sin. The explanation is that while our ways are not God's ways, that doesn't mean it can't be part of a larger purpose than imagined, as Genesis 50:20 excellently states:

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

And to respond to the OP, we can immediately see that option 1 is wrong, and so in order to finalize the discussion we just have to show that option 3 is not strictly true, which is what I did.

bro please

you're still talking about free will

>Reformed people say 3

That depends on what you mean by supernatural. We would say that God always providentially causes every event

Look I know you're messing with me or whatever but for the sake of the other readers, the OP was talking about ALL events. And some events are caused by individual actions, such as sins. I don't know what in the world you're talking about right now, but it's not what OP was.

I am the OP. My vpn adjusts on mobile networks.

Coincidence by definition means events beyond human decision

Everything exists through God. God knows everything. God has put laws in place and can give us unto wild spirits. God can act through anything.

I think we know when God's hand is at play, at least some of the time.
