The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Why is faith a virtue? Why does believing doctrine XYZ make someone a better person ceteris paribus?

cc8f64  No.819288

Because of the first commandment

Ok. Suppose that before God are two people, P and Q, alike in every way except that Q believes strongly in the Resurrection whereas P does not. (So as not to give the wrong idea, suppose further that despite his faith, Q is still lukewarm.) Now, why does God credit Q as the more righteous?

Because where truth dwells so does the Holy Spirit, therefore person Q is closer to God, at least in this matter.

Q follows the Truth of God. To te extent that P does not believe in the Resurrection he is gravely rejecting God, his message, revelation, the life of Christ and its purpose, etc. P does not believe because his heart is rotten, while Q, at least with regards to the ressurrection, does not reject what anyone would naturally accept.

faith is trust in God. For instance, when God promised Abraham in his old age that he would have many descendants, he believed in him, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Abraham had faith in God so that even when he told him to sacrifice Isaac, Abraham still believed that God would provide him with an heir, even if he sacrificed the child that Sarah gave birth to in her old age. This is why it is a virtue, because it is having trust in God. Read Fear and Trembling by Soren Kierkgaard if you want to know more.

This is somewhat true but incomplete. Faith is a form of knowledge given directly from God. It's more perfect than knowledge through reason because reason is fallible and you can always make mistakes. Faith is the experience of actually "Seeing" something. Reason is like deducing that this happened because of evidence x,y and z, which you can always make mistakes. Which is why faith is higher than reason. It only makes sense that God created another pathway to provide knowledge since we know reason is fallible. Faith is a direct pipeline of knowledge. I know what happened on my 10th birthday. I don't need any science or nonsense to know what happened. I was there. That's "faith" if you see something through faith you see it. You don't need to deduce oh well this or this must have happened type nonsense lol.
