The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What do you think of people who say using psychedelic mushrooms led them to God?

I have never used them, but I have a feeling they can be misleading. They seem like a short cut. It took me 35 years to find God, and the path was filled with great pain, confusion, and suicidal thoughts. It's hard for me to accept I could have just eaten a mushroom and avoided that.

I guess I'll repeat myself from that old thread, (because I'll get a response quicker here):

Hardly related but, is it ok to take sleeping medicine (like Ambline? It's nothing compared to shrooms, you only hallucinate a little. Or something else light like off the counter sleeping medicine?) and then stay awake for inspiration in things like art or writing? I have suffered from prelest, so I know better not to try and "find enlightenment" (approach spirits), ever.

Intentionally inducing hallucinations is pharmekeia, full stop.

Any "god" found in a toxic fungus is false. Those people are deluding themselves.

How many times do we have to say it?

Taking recreational drugs like shrooms, LSD, DMT, etc will not bring you closer to God. It is literally what pagans did in the past and it is what pagans do now. You are literally poisoning your body and spirit when you take recreational drugs.

A euphoric high today and tomorrow is not worth the hellfire for eternity.

good for them, but christian already a priori believe in God and afterwards psyches should be left behind, what greater thing could you find than god from them? Besides 'god' is a vague concept undefined, and hardly every 'psychonaut' becomes religious or even christian, no?

Every single experience can take you closet to God if you learn the right lesson from it.

This is controversial but true.

If you commit a grave sin and as a result you are filled with remorse, guilt and a longing for forgiveness, you are closet to Him than before.

It doesn't matter what event got you into anything, even religion. The question is if you actually followed up on that event and are truly into whatever you're into now, and not just listening to music, doing drugs, and talking about the truth of the universe, man. However if drugs did actually open your eyes to God, AND you followed up by actually going to church and becoming a real Christian. Then that's just as valid of a way to be brought to God as any other.

Could extend this to anything, really.

>Ever since I heard X on YouTube, it got me really into philosophy. I'm a bit of a philosophy buff now.

<Has never heard of Plato

No, it'd be more like:

>Ever since I heard X on YouTube, I've realized the importance of Philosophy

>I've since dedicated serious amounts of time and energy to studying Philosophy, even if I am still lacking

Of course, the situation you outline is more common.

There are no shortcuts, because the meaning of verses, passages, and books of the Bible are sealed to those undeserving of it (whether through unbelief or wickedness). One could read what is sealed to them again and again, but they won't be capable of understanding it at all until they handle what is holding them back.

Steven Bancarz has some great points to make about Christians and psychedelics. If you want I can go in depth about DMT entities with you

Adding my two cents:

After getting into LSD I stopped reading the Bible, got really into the occult, neglected my job duties, felt less love, engaged in risky behaviors, and was generally less connected to God.

Psychedelics make you take shortcuts in your thinking, actions, and especially spiritual development.

I've realized the error of my ways, but it was certainly a setback.

It's possible that God got to somebody while they were tripping but its still a sin.

Also you don't need to think about God for 35 years to believe in him.
