Not much. All of the Iranian leaders are puppets to the high up religious/political leaders. They pick these guys to experiment with how to conduct international affairs specifically. Rouhani has the more open approach (by Iranian standards) and was an attempt (nearly successfully) of softening the stance of the USA's sanctions against them. Under Obama it worked, but now they're rethinking the strategy under Trump.
Ahmadinejad was their previous attempt at bellicose behavior and trying to scare the crap out of everybody in order to be heard. It didn't work and Ahmadinejad was finally canned. People took his antics too seriously and it just isolated Iran even more. OTOH, they probably would have been smart to keep him, and have him combat Trump. He's an equal troll to counteract the US at the moment (that is, if you wanted that. I don't necessarily. I'm just saying he's better than every current world leader in how to speak to Trump).
