Transcend, trans = other side
eg. Transalpine Gaul, Gaul clay on the other side of – ie. Beyond – the Alps from the perspective of rome (vs. Cisalpine Gaul which was Gaulish clay on this side of the Alps from the roman perspective)
Descend = go down, ascend = go up, transcend = go beyond
Immanence, think immediate as in directly within – confronted by – the media, trancendence = the state of transcending
Immanence, the state of being immanent
For example immanent critique is to critique a text, ideology, philosophy or the like on its own terms from within
