So me and my friend were in a sticky situation involving the police. We were both praying that they would let us go and they did, even though they shouldn’t have. But to be honest it could have gone either way. I said something like “ I can’t believe we got out of that. “It was the Holy Spirit” said he.

“No it was Satan” I replied. My logic being why would the Holy Spirit help us get away with a lie? But then again who knows? I’m kinda freaking out I may have committed the unpardonable sin. Anyone care to share their opinions or insight? It would be appreciated!

No it definitely wasn’t a clear miracle and I definitely didn’t say it out of malice. I don’t even know how or why I said it I just kinda blurted it out. Thanks for the words of comfort. I’ve been praying a lot asking for an answer hopefully I get some closure itt

No I promise you I’m not some kid having a laugh. I was just having major anxiety about this issue and I’m glad I made this thread, I feel at peace now at least and I’m really trying to stop sinning, I’ve come a long way once this incident tbh

My understanding of blaspheming the holy spirit is that it requires a person to openly and knowingly reject the spirit AFTER acknowledging it's full power and truth. It would be like a person who dies, meets God at the judgement throne, accepts the fact that Christ is Lord and that God rules everything, and then rejects eternal life and chooses to be separated from God.

Consider that there are many atheists who convert to Christianity and are accepted into Protestantism, Catholicism and Orthodoxy. I myself was a horrible atheist in my youth and spent many months fretting over this particular sin after my conversion. A priest told me that I should be reassured by the fact that I am worrying about the sin. Someone who blasphemes against the holy spirit would be unconcerned about the results and would not spend anytime feeling bad about turning away from God. They would enjoy rejecting God and would never turn back to him.

All of this is just theory, of course. But I think a priest would tell you something similar.
