Hard to explain. The interpretation that I believe is that it tells the scenarios in the past, contemporary, and future. Nero was the Antichrist, and so are the corrupt leaders we have today and in the future. It's a very symbolic and poetic book.

Nero was an antichrist, so to speak. But, he's not that very final figure. We know for certain that it has not happened yet: 2 Thessalonians 2:3, an era of mass apostasy must occur before that figure appears. That had not happened yet when Nero came around, even though he was a disaster for us in the short term (long term, he's not very favorably looked back on).

Now, if you are looking with what we see now, I'd be a little more concerned in the foreseeable long term. Fortunately there's still a lot of Christians out there - yet - but we are trending into a condition that I'd say would be favorable for that one to become active.
