I find it hilarious that metal people are always obsessed with idolizing Satan, Lucifer, Nietzsche, and various ethnic war & death gods while claiming to be "ubermensch" who "affirm life" (they're utterly obsessed with Nietzsche.) Yet the very art they produce proves how sad, bitter, and filled with hatred they are. They characterize Christians as pathetic, small-minded, scared, having no "will to life" (again the Nietzsche obsession cannot be over-stressed) etc all the while they are literally screaming into a microphone about rotting corpses and the terror of existential nihilism and atheism. They're expressing darkness, hatred, and sorrow while claiming to be life-affirming Nietzschean pagan supermen Satanists. It's absurd.

I agree he was an intellectual powerhouse who properly predicted the outcome of the modernized western world. He did, in fact, see atheism and nihilism as "bad" in themselves yet he described them as good in terms of being necessary stepping-stones for the future Superman who created his own values and affirmed reality as good. He did not think we should turn back to God or any sort of metaphysical religious framework. He saw authentic Christianity as pathetic and bad as he saw atheistic nihilism. He wanted to leave both in the past and create a new type of human whose joy, will, and values went far beyond petty ideas of theism vs atheism.
