In all seriousness, how likely is it that reincarnation was originally taught and known by the early Christians, but was removed from the Bible/tradition by the original church figures? How do we know for sure that there is no chance of reincarnation? Inb4 troll thread.

I don't mean to try and be heretical, it's just the thought of "guess what, you were just going to reincarnate all along" that has been haunting me for the last month.

It's not likely at all. There was no such concept in Judaism, and some of them even denied the possibility of an afterlife:

>The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection, whereas the Pharisees did. In Acts, Paul chose this point of division to gain the protection of the Pharisees.

With all such claims, usually based on conspiracy theory and groundless speculation, always ask to see the evidence. You'll be surprised how often it's provided.

you're gonna 'reincarnate' in heaven or in hell, that's about it for reincarnation.

After looking at the specific claims, which I should have examined before my post, I see where the confusion lays. Hay is being made of a certain passage, but this should clear the error up for you:

What's the best evidence that there's an eternal life, and not a reincarnation?

Also, in the Gnostic/occult circles there are arguments of "that light you see in death, as described in many Near-death experiences" is a trap that sends you into a reincarnation state. Is this some Gnostic lie that's keeping us from seeing God? Or what is this tale based on?

OP, how do we know if reincarnation is the truth? What is Truth?

Not at all

Irenaeus of Lyon Fragments 49 (120-180 ad)

For both are revealed to the world as but one, for the soul was not anterior to the body in its essence; nor, in regard to its formation, did the body precede the soul: but both these were produced at one time; and their nourishment consists in purity and sweetness

Hyppolytus Against Plato, On the Cause of the Universe par 2 (170-236 ad)

and then He will accomplish a resurrection of all, not by transferring souls into other bodies, but by raising the bodies themselves.

Jerome Letter 144 par 5 (347-420 ad)

For it is impossible that you should hold the opinion of Origen, Priscillian, and other heretics that it is for deeds done in a former life that souls are confined in earthly and mortal bodies. This opinion is, indeed, flatly contradicted by the apostle who says of Jacob and Esau that before they were born they had done neither good nor evil.

If there is resurrection, there is no reincarnation. Jesus died and rose from the dead, confirming that all mankind will raise from the dead, meaning that reincarnation is false. And as it is written by Paul

>And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment just

I don't think that you understand either heaven or hell or reincarnation

>how likely is it that reincarnation was originally taught and known by the early Christians, but was removed from the Bible/tradition by the original church figures?

Probably around 0%

the only one who speak of something similar to reincarnation is Origen and he clearly took it from platonism and not from the Bible, since he was also a platonic philsoper.

Except for this is only gnostic sources.

It is based on the tibetan books of the dead. It has nothing even remotely christian, is just plain buddhism.

schizo BS.

When you die if you see a "spiritual guide" just test the spirits. Ask them to proclaim Jesus as Lord and God.

I know that site. The site owner has completely bought into the false teachings of Edgar Cayce and considers them authoritative. It's too bad, because the site also contains good information about near-death experiences. However I think the "being of light" in some of the experiences is really Satan disguised as an angel of light. You need to use discernment.

I think that if reincarnation exists (please don't call me a heretic) it would be a special mercy from God and not an automatic thing and not a thing that gets repeated without end.

What is lost in this life is lost forever, all of it is passing.

If you read most of the website, you'll see it's not just praising Origen, but claiming Saint John the baptist is the reincarnation of Elijah the Prophet. This wouldn't make sense in the logic of reincarnation, since Elijah wasn't actually killed, but taken up into the third heaven (depending on what your denomination is I guess though).

Also, how did people come to the conclusion of reincarnation? Where did such a concept originate from? If it's true, wouldn't there be a way to confirm it after reincarnation? You wouldn't be able to so well since you supposedly forget your past life. And I've had deja vu before, and i'm pretty sure it's not a "wait I remember this from a past life/different time", it's almost always a "I feel like I had a dream of this place before" kind of situation. Is reincarnation something people made up to explain the Deja vu sort of experience?

Bumping for interest, since I've been interested myself.
