The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Those who advocate for the lift of celibacy in the clergy have fallen for the Freudian meme that sexual repression triggers neurosis.

If you believe sexual repression triggers neurosis (which was never proven) then you must admit that if you were deprived of sex you'd possibly also commit an abuse.

And how would you explain the fact that:

1) celibate people live longer than those sexually active (data in the book mentioned below)

2) we are living a period of sexual freedom at the same time the occurrence of neurosis is at the highest level

I recommend you to read Sorokin's The American Sex Revolution. He was a Catholic sociologist and presents important data.

No. The argument for lifting the celibacy requirement is that it has allowed a homosexual cabal to gain power in the church and abuse thousands of adolescent boys. If married men could become priests, sodomites would never have viewed the priesthood as a haven. The argument has nothing whatsoever to do with the effects celibacy has on a person, only the effect that requiring it has on the pool of candidates.

Of course, lifting the requirement wouldn't immediately fix the problem–the sodomites already occupy many positions of power and influence, and unless they're purged it'll take time for them to be replaced by healthy men.

The problem with married priest's is that they can't give their entire being to the church and their flock, having a family can be a liability if push comes to shove. Celibacy doesn't encourage homosexuality, this problem is a modern one based on poorly executed reforms in the church and it's an effect of modernity as a whole

Orthodox priests have usually many kids and they all help in the church, together with his wife. They also serve as a role model for the laity to have many kids (the priest's salary is small so no excusses).

What's more, a man who has kids of his own is more difficult to molest another child.

Finally, this is how the tradition of the church was for 2000 years, priests could marry. Why change it now?

Monks are monks and priests are priests, the recent scandals is a good opportunity for the Catholics to clear that out.

Not in Rome it hasn't, and let's be honest there's a lot of reasons that Eastern Christianity has been under the boot time and time again throughout history

Even Peter had a wife

And one can argue that there are a lot of reasons why Catholics have being under pedophile satanic leadership time and time again throughout history but that's not the point of the thread.

Glad to see another Sorokin fan. A intro for those who don't know him: https://satyagraha.wordpress.com/2010/08/19/pitirim-sorkin-crisis-of-modernity/

You need to understand that priestly celibacy was a choice made by the church as it began to grow larger and deal with different circumstances, it's not theological but an authoritative discipline that has it's purpose in the larger scheme of things. There's a reason why orthodox countries have been subverted time and time again by the worldly powers of satan, and btw there are Roman Catholic priests who are married in Eastern rites so it's not a theological issue but a discipline put in place to protect the church

Still the Orthodox church managed just fine without changing the tradition and without pedophile mafias in it's ranks. Maybe you should take examples rather than being so prejudiced, even more now considering the state you are in.

The celibacy and the no woman priests rules are an incredible filter for the priesthood that only those that are properly committed to God (or unfortunately deeply committed to Satan) can make it in.

I don't know if you've seen some of the Protestant denominations but the Church of England is so ruined, and snowballing, because it gave the go ahead for every self important busy body that wants authority like a politician to go get started . Literally anyone can get in with few consequences to their life and they soon fill wherever they are with heresies.

You're overstating the pedophilia (homosexual) problem in the church, it's not unique to the RCC either despite how it's made out to seem by this world.

The problem is the cover ups all the way up to the pope as we recently found out. That is what makes it a pedo cabal and not some isolated incidents.

Then the fact that Francis kept his mouth shut while all the MSM labelled anyone who wanted answers as a homophobe leaves no doupt that the pedos are organized and with huge influence.

But the thread is about priest celibacy. Is it better to force priests to live as monks without being one, or keeping the traditional way of married priests?

I believe the state of the priesthood in the churches gives us the answer.

I also want to add that raising a family makes a man more resposible and gives him real life experience about modern day problems, thus making him more suitable to give guidance to kids and married couples.

This thread just reeks with massive amount of autism

i'm glad as well. Sorokin is eye opening. Haven't read his Social and Cultural Dynamics yet, but that The Crisis of Our Age is one of the most imporant books i've read.
