Heres my stupid post:
I must say that despite the fact that I really dont like Renaissance paintings, I like Luca Signorelli's Fresco of the antichrist and the devil.
Reason may sound stupid, but due to last days some guy spamming "master of this world" everywhere, I was thinking about it. I mean, God gave Earth (well, creation) to Mankind ("The heaven of heaven is the Lord's: but the earth he has given to the children of men". Genesis, Esdra, Sirach and so on)…(and to avoid more degenerate interpretations that would be dangerously close to gnosticism). Commentaries of various denomination, being Orthodox and non-Orthodox mentioned that it was about devil having certain influence on this world via sins of man (generally as malevolent counselor using his power over weakly willed king for his own ends in numerous childhood stories). While it was satisfactory on some level, i thought that I still didnt get the picture, but I think this fresco illustrates this perfectly. How devil whispers in ear of an antichrist while his hand is pulled out from his robes, as it is of antichrist.
I think symbolism in this fresco makes it a true masterpiece
