The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Picture related was me when I was 14-16.

I was such a little faggot. I thought I was smarter than everyone. No literally, I thought I had an IQ of 150 and was a genius on the level of Einstein just because I read a few Nietzsche quotes from Wikipedia. I look back now (I'm 19) and I cringe so hard at myself.

As you could imagine, I stopped going to church at this time because I thought it was stupid. I was to much of a "rebel" for church.

When I became 17 I started to mature more and mostly snapped out of my cringe nihilist phase but I kind of just became apathetic about religion and didn't really care if God existed or not.

Now, I really want to come back. I don't know how to though because I'm afraid of how my old pastor will think of me. I'm ashamed to go before God and ask for forgiveness because I know I don't deserve it. What do I do?

What denomination do you belong to?

I only ask because there may be a few steps involved usually nothing huge but each denom does it a little different.

None of us "deserve it", anon. We've all been ashamed of what we've done. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; [we] are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:23)

Many saints, like Augustine, have left the church for much longer periods than you. Your absence is extremely far from irredeemable.

Depending on your sect or denomination, it may differ, if you're Catholic, you may have to do some classes, Orthodox, some Catechesis, etc, but here is a plan that should be infallible:

1) Pray to God and repent, pray the Our Father daily, 2) get a Bible and read it daily, 3) go to the Sunday service/Mass/Liturgy. That's about it. Welcome back to His flock. He will accept you immediately.

God came to save sinners, he died for sinners. He died for you in your sin, he loves you as you are…His love is unconditional, but he wants to turn sinners into saints, he wants us to seek perfection, so we must open ourselves up and work with him voluntarily .

Go slow, do your scripture reading, make a daily prayer schedule, visit your local orthodox priest and ask for guidance. Without guidance our spirituality becomes very subjective and our interpretations liable to be wrong.

Also study history, Christianity is a historical religion, and a liturgical religion. God gave us a church with living teachers not simply a holy book from heaven…

For a Catholic it depends on how far they made it through sacraments if they made it the Reconciliation they simply need to go in and confess and they will be back in. If no t then yes they will need to take classes. Reconciliation isn’t hard there are many good videos on it if you have forgotten.

I'm not really a 'Christian', but the first path to happiness is to look forward, not back. It doesn't matter what you did. What matters is what you're going to do.
