Types of Christ:
>Adam - Romans 5:12-21; first man and "son" of God, plunged world into sin Christ reversed this.
>Abel - Killed by his own brother for being pleasing to God.
>Enoch - He walked with God and was taken by him.
>Noah - 1 Peter 3:20-21; saved the human race from complete destruction.
>Melchizedek - Hebrews 7:17; offered up bread and wine, Christ is a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
>Isaac - Abraham almost offers up Isaac as a sacrifice to God, foreshadowing Christ's own sacrifice.
>Jacob/Israel - Jesus's twelve disciples correspond to twelve tribes of Israel, Jesus is head of the Church and the Church is Israel.
>Joseph - Hated by his own brothers and treated terribly by them but forgives them anyway.
>Moses - Christ is the new Moses having introduced the law of grace.
>Joshua - Conquering Canaan = Conquering sin
>Samson - Sacrificed himself for greater good.
>Samuel - Both born in extraordinary ways.
>David - Matthew 1, Luke 3; Jesus is the son of David, born in the city of David in Bethlehem, literally the Psalms written by David and many are from the perspective of the Messiah, King of Israel, David promised Messiah comes from his royal line.
>Elisha - Successor to former preacher (Elijah and John the Baptist), did really similar miracles and had similar ministries.
>Hezekiah - Matthew 1:23; prophecies about both often overlap and are dual in nature, King of Judah, both are righteous.
>Josiah - King of Judah, foreshadows heavenly Kingdom.
>Jeremiah - Both severely persecuted for preaching the truth about God.
>Jonah - Matthew 12:40; Jonah in belly of fish for 3 days then vomited onto land = Jesus in the tomb for 3 days and then resurrected from the dead.
>Zerubbabel - Prophecies overlap and are dual of nature, governor of the Jews.
>Joshua the Priest - Please see Zechariah 6:11-12, names correspond (Jesus is Greek for the Hebrew Joshua), Joshua is prophesied to represent the Messiah
>Judas Maccabeus - Cleansed the Temple in certain respects, sacrificed themselves bravely.
The Old Testament is about Jesus and the figures and events that appear in it often represent Christ and his actions.
