His later works show some clearly Christian themes; I'll admit the topic is only as Christian as one wants it to be.
For me personally, his work raises questions about belief. Great art is supposed to uplift or spirit and, allow us to experience the divine. If beauty comes from perfection, why are some of these horrific works beautiful to me? Is the reverence one feels for the horror depicted comparable to what one feels for the beautiful? Is his work the result of demonic possession? Can the demonic be beautiful, and if so, should Christians allow it?
Wasn't going to write a blog post, really; to me the topic seemed significant enough. But I can make a boomer thread next time I guess.

The man died in a horrible way. Reading his life's story, misfortune surrounded him at times. His life reflects his work in that way. I don't know if that's relevant.
