The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I really wish I knew the Church Fathers better. I have read some large portions and sections out of several different Fathers, but really the literature is so vast and complex. I simply don't have enough time on my hands to study Ignatius of Antioch, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Athanasius, the Cappadocian Fathers, John Chrysostom, Augustine, John of Damascus, and so on and so forth. Plus there's all the Councils and encyclicals and so on. The collection of works is so large and I just don't have the time on my hands. Plus I try to keep up with the Bible and I've read it cover to cover several times and try to study it at least a few times a week. Man it's just so much guys. The faith is so huge. I just feel like I have an obligation to study it all and know it all though but I just don't have the time or energy to do all of that.

It's a life-long dedication, not just something you can do in a year, or a month. Just keep reading.

Are you studying the languages of the Church (plus others for evangelization)? Because if you're not, you're doing it wrong.

What should be read before tackling the writings of the church fathers? I'd imagine history and language, but what's a good reliable source for that information?
