The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Do certain philosophies have a place to coexist with Christianity? What I mean is, is it okay to divulge in things like critical theory as a means of objective analysis wrt morality? What types of philosophy are and aren't approved of from a Christian perspective.

Perennialism, gnosticism and any kind of mystical/philosophy which plot propose any kind of cosmology or alternative belief system. are obviously out.

The only kinds of philosophies which can coexist with with Christianity are (outside of Platonism/Aristotelianism) are a kind of moderated Stoicism and Epicureanism (the real kind, where moderation and balance are sought, not "muh eat drink and be merry" hedonism). Possibly also a dash of cynicism, too.

I.e. only practical philosophies.

Philosophy, even outside of Christian contexts are good and important for learning more about the world around us, and even ourselves.

Be careful not to let man made philosophies, however, get in the way of or supercede, the word and supremacy of the Lord.

Philosophy in the sense of fine tuning your logic and dialectic skills sure. But not in subscribing to some system of thought or worldview that differs from Christianity.

>critical theory

no you can't shill for marx and the frankfurt school and also be a healthy and honest person.

>What types of philosophy are and aren't approved of from a Christian perspective.

Philosophy that revolves around christian orthodoxy; All other "philosophies" are meant to be refuted and destroyed

One can't approve of nihilism, relativism and certainly "magical" philosophies are out. As a Christian there's no point in asking any supposed or actual demons for stuff anyway. Lay up treasures where rust doth not corrupt.

But to your point we are very philosophically critical of things which are against our moral tenets.

You will find that Christianity actually gives more clarity to your philosophical and other inquiries. Bobby Fischer believed that his Baptist beliefs helped his chess game. I find likewise that Christianity has improved my philosophy.

Just be careful with philosophy, lots of people have """good ideas""" and as a result you should try to make your studies solitary and only talk philosophically with those who you think really care. Many idiots approach philosophy as a party trick, or to make out the whole world as meaningless, which when directed at pretty girls is really just advanced "negging" viz. "everything is meaningless, therefore you (m'lady) are meaningless also unless you validate yourself via sexual acts." Unsurprisingly these people end up on r*ddit's r/NewAtheism complaining about sexual frustration, but I digress.
