The issue with such an interpretation is that it fails to understand what the Lord of the Rings is. LOTR is a form of Wagner's Ring Cycle but with Christian values as opposed to Pagan ones. This article by Spengler explains it pretty well

He is rewriting the Pagan mythos. Claiming that his work is just inherently Pagan in of itself is a very smallbrained way to look at it
