The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I'm so lost about my denomination, Right now i'm just a follower of Christ, and i'd identify as a protestant in my beliefs on salvation, and kind of Calvinist on God choosing me, not the other way around. But i'd still like people from different denominations telling me why I should be that in a helpful manner. Or at least have sources to look into them.

What have you read so far? If you think that you are more or less Calvinist you may want to read some texts in the library here http://www.ccel.org and see whether you agree with some of those writers.

So you want persuasion instead of using critical thinking?

Because the gate of hell shall not prevail against the Church which our Lord founded and is the head of. The Church which the teachings has not changed much or conformed to the drumbeats of secularism. So BEGOME ORDODOG.

Another tip. You will want that not because xyz denomination is convenient or easy for you; you will want to seek Christ with all your heart, not teachings that conforms to your convenience. And if that lead you to a denomination, then let it be so.

Why do you follow that Church if you admit that it's teachings are different from those of the apostles?

This. Matthew 16:18 is pretty unambiguous.

>Thou art Peter you are the head of the church after I'm gone and everyone has to do what you say. Also you and your successors from your seat in Rome (not the one in Antioch) are infallible when speaking ex cathedra. Also clown masses are legit :DDD

Btw OP, I found a video you may like explaining why Catholics take Matthew 16:18 so seriously; the Biblical roots and connections suppourting petrine supremacy are a lot deeper than you or most people would think.

>and kind of Calvinist on God choosing me, not the other way around

This is not a particularly Calvinist doctrine. This doctrine was inherited from the Catholic Church and is common to most of the traditional Protestant denominations.

The teachings has not, but some traditions changed with time such as the calendar and of the catechumen leaving the liturgy early. And it is pretty much the closest to the original Church.

Use your faith and believe in the guiding hand of the living God. Grow where ever God places you. Find some churches and simply go. Choose these churches based not on how they make you feel but by how much they glorify God. Pray in accordance to the will of God and you will be granted the desires of your heart because your desires are Gods desires. Everyone here may give you suggestions but in the end you will be planted where ever God has placed you and from there you will grow. Go to where ever you see Gods will manifest. You arent lost, you are on a new chapter of your adventure with the Lord and your adventures will have ups and downs, joy and sorrow, and in the end you will have become stronger for it. Life with the Lord is a constant wrestling with struggle and a love pursuit of the Lord full of purpose, the Lord will make you seek your answer out and he will guide you along the way so long as you trust him. Theres no need to wonder for to the Lord everything is sure and that assured spirit lives inside of you. If you search by your own power you will remain lost in your search, but trust in the Lord that you will find where you need to be and you will find it. Our relationship with him is fluid like this. There is no fear because theres nothing to be afraid of. No worry because theres nothing to be worried about. When you trust in the Lord you become yielded to his nature, and his nature of goodness will be what guides you always. Every move you make will be organic and instead of seeking out opportunity, opportunity will come to you. You dont open the doors of life, God opens the doors and shuts them. This is what our walk with God looks like, which is one where we yield to him our own control because his will is sovereign and our will is not.

God bless

People forget that Paul and Peter disagreed on things. The gatholig church isnt the one true church and it isn't infallible, the church is the body of Christ and the body of Christ are the Saints, those who have received salvation are the Saints. Christ is the head of the church and of this body is many parts, all serving a singular purpose under heaven in different ways, all important to the glory of God and the salvation of mankind. No saint operates outside of the body for an arm dismembered from its body cannot operate, likewise a sect or denomination apart from the Catholic church doesn't sit outside the body but works in tandem with it. Peter and Paul served the church in significant ways, no one can claim that Peter founded the church. The church was founded at the Cross.

Also the verse is future tense, so if peter was given the keys when?

Matthew 18:18 is when all the disciples got the keys, but not Peter alone. (and if you look at the context, it seems like any group of elders has the keys)

Don't let the many denominations distract you. Search for the truth and for Gods will for your life.
