My father was a longtime atheist, but converted to Christianity in his 50s. Problem is, he is nondenominational and says "God has no Church". He's also into Prosperity Gospel pastors and new age books (e.g. The Secret).

I will try to get him into Catholicism, but I only started taking faith more seriously this year. I believe I have yet a lot to learn before I can convincingly defend my faith.

Being a Christian father means being willing to put aside your Earthly authority over your children and hope they follow God instead of you and raising them to do that.

When and if, as I deeply hope, they give themselves to Christ, I will tell them thereafter to only refer to me by my first name:

"And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven" Matthew 23:9

That way, every time they call me by my name instead of dad, they'll remember who their real father is and how much both of us love Him.

Earthly father is a disappointing, nihilistic hedonistic atheist. We don't speak much anymore. I pray for him.
