The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Hey guys, I think I want to begome gadolig or ordodox but I haven't completely decided yet. Anyway I'm currently an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist and was baptized as one two years ago. Would I have to be baptized again upon entering either one of these Churches when I decided what to go for?

It depends on what you're looking for and want to find in the Church.

do you have a baptismal certificate?

No they don't give out one but I have pictures.

Was it a Trinitarian baptism? If so then probs not. Ie, was the form I baptize you in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

The pastor said, "I, Pastor [his name], baptize you, [my name], in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen." I remember it was exactly that.

That's a valid baptism. You are baptized, and that sacrament cannot be repeated, therefore no "re-baptism."

Oh, and it goes without saying, but water also has to have been used, but I assume as you're IFB this wouldn't be an issue. A baptism with sand or pebbles would be invalid (and weird).

Can you share your journey to Christianity and why you became and IFB and then why you left it for Apostolic Christianity?

Brother, join the One Holy Apostolic Catholic Church. Amen

It'll be repeated because they don't acknowledge their brothers or sisters in Christ, totally not a social club though…

>that's with either "catholic" group

>are you ready for the idea that your being dunked in water is what's saves your immortal soul?

>clearly listed two separate church's that both claim that title

Very good

Are you secretly a Catholic who is false flagging as a Protestant?

If you go for Catholicism? No, I think.

If you go for Orthodox? Good chances you'll be rebaptized, even with a certificate. But maybe not. Depends of the mood of the bishop.

These days probably the one with the most embellished and aesthetic liturgy would probably be the most ideal since you're going to be engaging in a repetitive and cyclical form of worship might as well go with the one that puts you into a deep contemplative and reverent state the most.

2ea019 No.660309

Sometimes people are received in the Catholic Church by a conditional baptism: "If you are not baptized, I baptize you…" In your case, I expect that you would be received without conditional baptism on your own testimony of the form of the event. You would just need to make a general confession (confession of sins post-baptism), then receive confirmation and communion.

For both of them, ultimately it depends. Mainstream RCC post-Vatican II will absolutely accept your baptism. Most Traditionalist Catholic groups will probably have you baptized again since sacraments performed outside the Church are considered by them to be invalid. You have a similar divide in Orthodoxy as well; some churches will accept your baptism and just have you chrismated (while allowing you to be baptized if you want), while others require you to be baptized. So ultimately it will depend on the church you decide to attend and be catechized in.

>Most Traditionalist Catholic groups will probably have you baptized again since sacraments performed outside the Church are considered by them to be invalid

By "traditionalist" you mean "schismatic"? Because accepting the validity of baptisms done by heretics has been the consistent Roman practice since the controversy on the subject between Cyprian and Pope Stephen.

If any traditionalist groups in communion with the Holy See reject the baptisms of Orthodox and Protestants as invalid, they're acting in opposition to the Church.

>You have a similar divide in Orthodoxy as well; some churches will accept your baptism and just have you chrismated (while allowing you to be baptized if you want), while others require you to be baptized.

You actually have three views:

1) Same as the Catholic view (baptisms of heretics are valid sacraments)

2) Baptisms of heretics aren't valid but Chrismation compensates for the lack of grace of the heretical baptism. You can get rebaptized if you want too.

3) Baptisms of heretics aren't valid and you need to be baptized again if you want to be in the Church. (some athonite monasteries will even rebaptize you if you're Orthodox but weren't baptized Orthodox)

> I have pictures.

Wait, a denomination that is so autistic on baptism that they call themselves Baptists, does not hand out a certificate? What did they give you a Polaroid? reminds me of those post-ride photo stands at amusement parks
