Generally speaking, we are called to avoid any vulgarity of speech and crudeness of behavior (Ephesians 5: 1-7, 2 Timothy 2: 16-17, Matthew 12: 36).
We forget how powerful words can be, as often thought precedes word, which when spoken will precede action.
For example, if we say in passing about someone who has offended us, "I'm so mad I wish he would die," you either do wish it, which is sin, or you don't, which makes you a liar, and therefore you sin.
Therefore it is best to avoid vulgar speech insofar that it is not expedient to living righteously.
As for watching lewd and vulgar things, I can't tell you to stop, but it can be a great stumbling block in the process of seeking out God.
Is it possible to seek God while being amidst these things? Yes, but only for those of great discipline and fortitude (I hardly count myself among them, as many a brother does).
Ultimately, it's best to filter out that which is vulgar and seek out edifying material.

Also what this anon said. Surrounding yourself in sinful and vulgar media is like holding onto a long rope that has been set ablaze at the other end.
If you don't let it go, the fire will eventually come and burn you.
