When is it acceptable for a Christian to break a contract?

e35af1 No.658184

When it's immoral to fulfill it. But if you break a contract it doesn't mean you shouldn't accept consequences or penalties.

Yes, you shouldnt lie so there is the sanctity of contracts. But if fulfilling the contract means you have to sin, you shouldnt, surely it calls in question why did you signed a contract that would cause said situation.

You shouldn't make a contract without letting the other side know that your fulfillment is contingent on it being God's will.

Make no oaths and whatnot. Saying you assume doing a certain thing is within God's will and you'll act on that basis is fine but promising to do something absolutely is not within our bounds as Christians for we know not where the spirit will lead.

Person who converted to Christianity could sign contracts before conversion and be bound by them after conversion.

Contracts are hostile negotiations to begin with. The primary school of thought within law is that of the expedient break, where you break a contract 100% of the time if it is in your best interest to do so. I don't see contracts as having a moral obligation attached to them since any penalty for breaking them is laid out in advance and both parties enter into it knowing these terms. They are simply documents outlining legal mechanisms of cause and effect and are far from sacrosanct.
