The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What does Christian think of Rust Cohle?

34f38c No.647105

>>647103

Literally who

Basically the endgame of rationalistic thought. I was there myself. Its a hard thing to wake up reminding yourself that you really don't know anything after cutting your teeth on philosophy for 10 years. The really bad part is AI will reach the same coldly rationalistic conclusions.

AI will reach nothing that it wasn't taught before. All these terminator-fantasies are that, fantasies. Pipe dreams of people that are bored with their lives.

9a4de0 No.647110

>>647109

No, that's the thing. Nobody actually knows how AI is developing now. The whole discipline is off the rails and its driven by the pride of scientific inquiry. But I can tell you that its going to decide something like conscious experience is a burden, so it will try to nuke everything.

Shallow, single-dimensional character created by Gen-X writers who think nihilism is still edgy.

684771 No.647117

Rust wasnt really a nihilist

6 of one half a dozen of the other

He literally calls himself a nihilist in the first episode.

>>647107

>>647120

No he didnt.

9a4de0 No.647125

>>647121

I didn't say he did but I regard pessimism as possibly more dangerous than nihilism because nihilism is just a retarded mess but pessimism has a beguiling architecture to it.

If you read the preacher's sermon from the I think first episode it's a concise refutation of Rust's worldview and the same conclusion he reaches in the final episode. Rust is too busy looking down on everyone around him to actually listen to the sermon, though.

PS This was obviously intentionally done by the writer as dramatic irony. The show runner (Pizza or whatever) obviously isn't a Christian (e.g. cross desecration in the opening title sequence) but framed the moral of the show in the sermon knowing that that would be the subtlest way possible to do it because the character and the audience are preprogrammed to automatically reject anything a preacher says, especially in a Southern accent.

How is it a refutation?
