From the guidlines for priests concerning the implementation of Amoris Laetitia:
>In other more complex circumstances [talking in terms of remarriage], and when a declaration of nullity could not be obtained, the aforementioned option [two civilly remarried Christians living in chastity] may not be in fact feasible. However, a path of discernment is also possible. If it is recognized that, in a specific case, there are limitations that mitigate liability and guilt, particularly when a person considers that he would fall on a further fault damaging the children of the new union, Amoris laetitia opens the possibility of access to the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.
Pope Francis on these guidlines:
>The writing is very good and explicitly the meaning of chapter VIII of Amoris laetitia. There are no other interpretations.
Many people are asking Pope Francis for clarification on Amoris Laetitia. This makes it pretty clear. The divorced living in a sexual relationship with each other have communion open to them if there is a reason that mitigates guilt. The example of mitigation of guilt given is that by not extending communion to them, it might "damage the children" of the new union.
So, how bad is this really? I don't think it's outright heresy as is being proposed as communion is still only open to practicing Catholics in a state of Grace. However creating doubt over such an important thing as recieving communion is never good, as he could be a lot clearer and simply say "yes this is allowed, no this isn't", and it makes one wonder why he isn't clear. I think at worst, he has simply misjudged what guilt is when it comes to sin. It seems they're including personal choices as reasons for why guilt may be mitigated. For example, having sex after divorce (which is adultery), creating a child with a non Christian partner who isn't your spouse, then believing that that mitigates your guilt for having a sexual relations outside of your marriage.
