Can someone who's played through this game please explain what it's message is? Is it anti-christian or what?

For my own amusement firstly a few gripes and thumbs up. Firstly while I like the resistance meter mechanic in the context of this as an open world game it fills WAY too fast. You are out beating on cultists, liberating outposts and suddenly, forced story mission, and that happens in the blink of an eye and boom, region liberated. Second gripe is weapon selection is way too small, a standard M14 and a tactical M14 are not two seperate weapons, they are the same gun the latter is just a skin and the developers use this trick repeatedly to pad the gun selection numbers. Reskinning a weapon with plastic stocks and rails is not a substituite for real weapons selection, especially given all the neat stuff on the US civillian market that they could have added in. Postitive though are that the world feels much more lively, cultists and civillians are all over the place and so are wildlife making it feel very much inhabited. Guns that are in the game feel very satisfying to use. Also exploring on foot feels rewarding as there are unmarked goodies that can be found in places. Overall wandering around is fun and can be totally chaotic and thats great.

Okay story wise the cult is a mix of the rajneeshee cult and jim jones as far as I can tell. The baddies are compelling, they do have some redeeming qualities while still being antagonists. They really seem to be a classic personality cult with a thin vaneer of "christianity" half ass painted over this fact. They do not treat the cult as representative of actual Christianity (in fact character chatter and some notes imply actual Christians are at odds with the cult). So theres my take.

Seed is the Anti-Christ. Surely his presence does bring doom to the earth, but his master isn't God, but satan! God is a God of love, and last I checked someone that loves you doesn't force you to take drugs.

>but seed was right

He was, but his methods were horribly wrong. He never praised Jesus, but instead he claims he will absolve you of sin even if he has to rip it out of you. This is just a good example of Protestantism gone haywire.

This. Heck, he even calls himself The Father. If that didn't tip you off, nothing will.

I just wish it wasn't announced right after Trumps presidency, that made it look like some cheap "Republicans are evil babyeaters" type of propaganda game.

A lot of leftists were basically hoping for exactly that sort of game, and were disappointed when they didn't get it. Of course that doesn't mean that the game is good, but rather that leftists are never satisfied.

>Is it anti-christian or what?

Not really, but if you're hyper-sensitive, absolutely yes. It has non-cult Christian NPCs in it that repeatedly say how screwed up the cult are, and though they're not exactly preaching the gospel, that both surprised and mildly pleased me that they bothered to throw that in. You'd have to be a pretty f&$ked-up version of Christian to see yourself in these chemically-enhanced, nightmare-prophesy-spouting psychotics the game projects.

That said, it's not like the antagonists, particularly the main guy, don't have some brilliant points, and this was something else I hated about the game: they had built a steadily increasingly intriguing big bad who made a LOT of sense at times, and then, just in case you were sympathising with him, made him a baby-killer, just to reeeaaally twist the knife in your sympathies. I considered that lazy writing.

Still, in terms of gameplay, it's pretty solid, it's not particularly anti-Christian, and it was worth playing through once. I think I would wait for a sale before buying it, if I had my time over, but I'm happy enough with my purchase.

>The bad guy was completely right about everything

/christian/ got all autistic insisting this was true. I've played it through, and although strictly speaking it does turn out that way (and that a lot of normies are getting butthurt about "Uh, I don't want to play this cuz it's depressing an' sheet"), it is the weakest-ass prophesy I've ever heard of.

Let's be VERY clear, Revelations is talking about wiping the old heavens and earth away completely and replacing them. THIS is twisting Revelations into some "oh, noes, civilisations gets btfo". It's VERY Revelations-lite. 'And if ANYTHING should get real Christians butthurt about this game, it's that they turn the apocalypse of Christ's final victory into some limp-wristed (((SPOILERS)))"civilisation is doomed and we're all living as the survivalists told us we would be"'' scenario, which I thought was just weak. I hear plebbit is running around saying "protag is Christ triumphant", but even that was weak as pi^^.

So, on THAT score, I found the game disappointing. I seriously wanted Mr Cultist to not only be right, but for, frankly, Christ to return. Yeah, I know, in a normie game written by atheists. I get it: I'm dreamin'. But a man can dream, no?

>Seed is the Anti-Christ.

Yes, and for all the reasons anon says.

>He never praised Jesus

Also this. In fact, I spent a LOT of time watching his every word to see what kind of god he believed in, and, frankly, god was kinda incidental to his entire "faith". It was all about his "the world is ending"-schtick with god, guns and survivalism as his religion.

>>636526

>he even calls himself The Father

Oh, and yes, this was pretty blasphemous to ever come from any of God's chosen.

There's a Trump "pisstape" mission in the game, anon. The devs are Ubisoft. It's what you'd expect.

d7455d No.637116

The game makes it pretty clear that the cult leader is the Antichrist, and the bliss drug is the mark of the beast. The cult is not meant to be a depiction of Christianity, but rather it's opposite.

Every major Christian denomination from Baptist to Catholic has produced cults like this in real life over the centuries. (Yes, I can back that up with examples.) It's honestly something we need to watch out for. When someone in your flock starts preaching about rising up against the government, don't buy into it.

I don't think normies will appreciate the subtlety of the game's message, and they'll just take it as "Christianity is evil," and it was apparently marketed that way, so the game can be faulted for that, but it's easy to overestimate the acuity of normies, so you can forgive the developers.

In short, the game isn't anti-Christian, but it can be easily misinterpreted to be anti-Christian by both Christians and anti-Christians.

17e10e No.637145

>please explain what it's message is

There is no message. It's a game designed to look cool and edgy so it can sell a lot of copies. The creators don't care about "le deeper meaning hidden inside :) " they just want your money.

So…if he belted scripture with at least a bit of relevance more often, would he have been a bit better?

You are missing the point. Its not about just him preaching the scripture. Even if he did call upon the name of Jesus he is still a genuinely evil person. You can't force love onto someone. That is wickness.
