f2be71 No.631682

I only remember God (truly) when I'm suffering. I try to be a good christian even when I'm not suffering, but most of the time I'm divided and I sin, relying in the Lord's mercy. And I know this is wrong, but I do it anyway. Why do I need to suffer to appreciate God? Under these conditions, I do not deserve to be happy (at least, entertained with the pleasures of the world).

Why do I have to be so ungrateful? I do not deserve anything. Please guide me.

Mental prayer may be an answer.

This is when you simply open your heart to talk to the Lord about pretty much anything.

To begin with, this usually takes the form of finding somewhere quiet and/or secluded, placing yourelf in His presence (ie. calling Him to mind), reading a passage of scripture or from some spiritual work, and then using it as a base to start speaking with Him. Try this for at least five minutes a day. Then, as you get more used to the formula, try turning it up to 15 minutes. Eventually you can find yourself in constant mental communion with Him, praying as you react to events or circumstances around you, whether good or bad, and you can start to do so off the cuff, without needing any kind of prompting.

If you are not used to it at first, it might seem a little strained or stange, and you might just catch yourself repeating things over and over again, but don't be dismayed, as children learn to speak this way too. It's like making a new friend, where initially you might find conversational topics a bit limited but as you become more familiar and your bond of friendship deepens, you will find yourself talking about almost anything.

The difference is that you aren't really asking for anything with this (as per regular/vocal prayer), just talking with Him and adoring Him.

Do note, however, that sanctification is impossible without it.
