Memes and jokes asides every time someone posted a news about a Christian being persecuted or treated unjustly. When push comes to shove I find it really scary.

Had a dream last night. A Christian school got marched upon and burned to the grounds by an army. Not even children spared from the flames. Everyone decided to stand their grounds in faith (school as normal, with some singing and performance to part with, etc.). Myself in the dream however, look for every way to avert this fate for myself and possibly save some of the others, especially the children.

Then I woke up. And I got a question: If martyrdom comes knocking and in fear for your life you run from it, are you thoroughly screwed then?

inb4 those who keep their life shall lose it, but those who lose their life for Christ shall keep it.

Many are called, but few are chosen

Is not that related to the Parable of the Wedding Feast? For many are invited, but few has chosen to come.

I also had a dream recently about this. Christians were being taken to camps and I was asked if I would be among them.

I heard this bible verse in my dream as well

Even Peter denied Christ thrice, anon

Seems I worded my thread very poorly. By averting the fate in the dreams, I mean I look for a way out of the armys blockade and the flames surrounding the place and escape; not denying my faith. They are beyond asking question at the point in my dream and torch the school and anything that moves that is not them.

inb4 hurting the army by "look for a way out of the armys blockade". To put simply. "Sneak. Out.".

A person who attempts to elude martyrdom might be "thoroughly screwed" depending on whether they might harm another person or not in their escape. If they just attempt to save themselves, but do not harm others, they might as well be saved, since they'll just be regular people who otherwise follow the commandments, but didn't have the will to sacrifice themselves for others. The passages that come to my mind are Mark 10:17-19 and Matthew 19:16-18, which indicate that following the commandments is sufficient for salvation. Someone might correct me on this. But even saints aren't under obligation to suffer whatever harm comes their way, unless it is unavoidable given their divinely ordained mission to further the salvation of men. Otherwise, Peter shouldn't have escaped from prison, as in Acts 12:5-18, and lived on to preach another day. And neither would have Jesus told the apostles to flee from persecution and follow on preaching, as in Matthew 10:23.

But if somehow your escape violates divine will, if your escape is a willful rebellion against God and and a threat to the life and salvation of others, then you might be pretty fucked.

I don't think it's a sin to want to save yourself anon. If however you flee persecution and this endangers others or makes things worse for them - then you might be in trouble.

I wouldn't mind being martyred, but being tortured beforehand would suck. Martyrdom isn't something I'd seek out. You should avoid martyrdom if you can, as long as you aren't throwing anyone else under the bus.

Being a Christian means we might have to endure horrors in order to stay true to God. If you need help accepting the horrors of modernity, read pic related.

Its a great book about a Romanian that turned Soviet "re education camps" into a metaphorical desert. Not only did his bond with God strengthen, he also managed to convert communists to Jesus.

Its a great read, highly recommended

I was a soldier for a long time. I've pretty much decided for myself, that were I ever put in such a situation, I'd die fighting, and try to take as many with me as I could. Sounds spiteful, but I've always had a bit of a "I kill one, that's one less shooting at someone else, I kill two, that's two less" attitude about such things. As for running away? If it was the most effective option, then I would.

I like the way this guy thinks. At some point, we will have to resist the forces of modernity violently.

For me personally, when i never committed to any of these issues, i was like any secularist that just would turn away from death/fear it. But when you read about many of the early Martyrs in rome, and can really have faith then you'll be willing to go for it. Also personally, if you haven't you need to put on the full armor and the faith of Christendom, convert to Orthodoxy, and if possible go to your local orthodox church and get baptised.

Also orthodox music, and their pics always help me there's just something true and mystical about how our eastern brothers practice their faith.

>Had a dream last night

You're experiencing anxiety that you won't hold your ground

>If martyrdom comes knocking and in fear for your life you run from it, are you thoroughly screwed then?

Let's get this one thing straight: you are under no obligation to run toward martyrdom.

It IS meant to be something you can try to avoid.

Look how many times Jesus "slipped through the crowd" that were trying to lynch him.

BUT

DO NOT deny Christ in doing so. So if someone points a gun and says, "Deny Christ", you accept your fate and DON'T deny Christ.

If you DO deny Christ _then you're in trouble.

Simple, really.
