As is the case with all of these "I died and went to hell!" people, it's difficult to say. Hell, strictly as a state of being, can be experienced just as much as Heaven can be experienced while a person is still alive (i.e. a life live lived according to the flesh vs theosis). Clearly, these people didn't truly die, but they might have been given a taste of the fire as a mercy so they might clean up their act. It could also be prelest. Look at their testimony on a case-by-case basis and if it contradicts Scripture in any way, ignore it.
By the way, the notion that plenty of self-professed Christians don't make it to Heaven shouldn't be surprising to you. God even warns us of this precise issue.
>“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
All we can do is trust in the Lord's infinite mercy and do our best to follow His commandments in our lives.
