A 40-foot memorial dubbed the “Peace Cross,” erected in 1925 in honor of 49 men who lost their lives during World War I, must now be torn down, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday.

The memorial, in Bladensburg, Maryland, was created by the American Legion and is shaped like a cross.

“Today’s decision sets dangerous precedent by completely ignoring history, and it threatens removal and destruction of veterans memorials across America,” First Liberty Institute attorney Hiram Sasser said, according to Fox News.

“This memorial has stood in honor of local veterans for almost 100 years and is lawful under the First Amendment. To remove it would be a tremendous dishonor to the local men who gave their lives during The Great War,” Jones Day attorney Michael Carvin said. First Liberty Institute and the Jones Day law firm are representing the American Legion in this legal battle.

In 2014, the (((American Humanist Association))) filed a lawsuit contending that the cross-shaped memorial is unconstitutional.

The group’s foundation believes in “being good without a god.” In their lawsuit, they asked for the memorial to be demolished, altered or removed.

I thought the American Legion was a private veteran organization, so I don't see how they could possibly make them take it down?

>being good without a god

Atheism is the worst sin possible to commit in this life.

Sins like murder, torture, mutilation, rape, and genocide are sins against one's neighbour. God commanded us to love our neighbors. But that is only the second commandment.

The great and foremost commandment is to love God. Sins against God are worse than sins against one's neighbor. Impiety and in particular blasphemy is a sin against God, and atheism is the ultimate form of blasphemy (at least without certain knowledge of Christ, after which blasphemy becomes the one unforgivable sin).

Just by being atheists, atheists are committing the worst sin possible in the world, worse than any other sin that humans presently have access to.

No, atheists, you aren't good. Your sin, the sin of atheism, is worse than murder or child molestation. Atheists are about on par with or perhaps worse than theistic Satanists when it comes to being the most immoral people in the world. I say this as a former atheist.

>Jews have WWI ‘Peace Cross’ memorial torn down

Imagine my surprise when I learn it's fedoras doing this and not jews. Pic related.

>Hiram

defending it, is he? Huh. What's (((their))) game here?

>The American Legion could appeal directly to the Supreme Court.

So they fugging should. That's a disgraceful ruling.

Must be on public land

>But that is only the second commandment

They are the same commandment; understanding why requires understanding the nature of God. If you loved God, you would love your neighbor as yourself.

The second is like the first, there is no difference in importance. Read multiple gospels on the greatest commandment, and compare Jesus's new commandment in the gospel of John for understanding. It's easy to misinterpret this is you read just one gospel on its own.

This.

How can you love Humans, if you don't love Heavenly Father of Mankind? Or how can you love God, if you don't love His children that bear His image and likeness?

Those who claim that dont believe in God but love mankind are liars, as they deny dignity of mankind and their "love" is actually utilitarian, only serving as a boost for their ego.

How do you brothers retain hope? The whole world is obviously in a death spiral.

I have little to no hope left, my faith in the Lord is unshaken however.

I don't think I will prevail over the evils in the world, not until the afterlife, but I will not kneel until then, that I am certain.

Sorry for blogposting. It hurts, frens.

>How do you brothers retain hope? The whole world is obviously in a death spiral.

Because there is nothing new under the sun.

>I don't think I will prevail over the evils in the world,

You don't have to, since the Lord as done this already.

Stay true and hold fast to what you have learned, and never ever despair. Remember, he who perseveres until the end shall be saved.

Also, it might sound corny, but smile. It's such an underappreciated action, and it helps to spread charity. Christ is risen, what do we have to be unhappy about?
