What happens to the soul when we die? This seems like a simple biblical question but i'm seeing a lot of conflicting ideas and beliefs. Do we go to heaven or hell?

You go before God to the particular judgement where you learn how much you need Him and how pure goodness He is and it is either ripped away from you and you're cast into hell, you go to purgatory to be purged of imperfections before entering Heaven, or you get the beatific vision and enjoy Heaven forever
