I know there is a community not too far from me, and I studied German so learning Pennsylvania Dutch shouldn't be that hard for me. Everything about their life style seems just so right. I am really considering joining them, even if it means giving the internet and you guys up forever. I just want to devote my life to Christ. Should I join them /christian/?

You need to determine what God's plan is for you. It's not necessary to give up all aspects of modern life to live a Godly life - in fact I would say it's counterproductive. If God's message is universal it must apply to any people at any time, including the modern one. It's possible that living an Amish life is what you need, but don't jump in thinking it will solve all your problems.

My understanding is that the Amish accept people to live in their communities before they join - you would be attached to a family and pick up daily tasks. You could try living there for a few weeks and see how things go if the Amish bishop (or whomever leads their community) believes you to be sincere.

I need it, it's the only way I'll ever be fully devoted to Christ Jesus.

I'm also just really sick of the world. Too much sin in it! Look around! There is fag marriage, fag adoption, genital mutilation for schizophrenics who think they're another gender, rise in atheism, etc. The west is collapsing so I just want to separate myself from it all and be wholly devoted to Christ the Lord without a worry or care about anything else. Hopefully I can find a beautiful submissive Amish wife who I can also put my effort in. Wish me luck /christian/.

>I need it, it's the only way I'll ever be fully devoted to Christ Jesus.

This is my main concern: if you are having problems now, what makes you think that they'll go away by joining an Amish community? The Amish will ask you the exact same questions.

The world is a burden and distracting. It hinders me from putting full devotion into Christ as well as plaguing me with the madness of politics that is inescapable unless I join a group like the Amish.

Don't. “The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.”—Proverbs 26:13.

The lion, the Devil, is in the streets of the world, and these Amish "Christians" hole themselves up in their houses rather than take up a bow or spear and get rid of the lion. I'm Protestant, but at least Catholics actually try and spread Christianity to unreached people, and nations like India who are living in bondage to Satan.

I don't think you can "become" Amish.

afaik its possible to become Amish

but its very rare because they're a pretty insular group and don't evangelise

and anyhow most people don't want to give up phones n shid

it is possible though, if someone really wants to

OP, if you're looking to join the Amish to further your Christian faith, then you'll be disappointed. I think it's fine to stay Amish if you were born into that community, but joining them for the sake of trying to become a better "Christian" won't yield any spiritual fruits for you.

I suggest you watch this 1hr documentary titled "Amish, A Secret Life." The people interviewed are devout born-again Christians and they talk about how the rigid Amish lifestyle is more about rules and commandments rather than truly following God in the Spirit. Really is an enlightening documentary especially considering it was filmed by BBC.

The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught." (Isaiah 29:13)

OP, consider what the prophets of Israel and Judah had to go through. It's not like your situation is any different. Watch the movie Jeremiah, hopefully this will speak to you in some way. God appointed this time and He placed us in this situation so that we may glorify Him. God bless.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)

You … DO know … it's not actually Dutch but just 17th century Swiss German?

Sure, why not?

Go for it. The worst that can happen is you grow a neck beard. The wisdom and skilled to be gained from that experience is invaluable with if the right amount of discernment is applied.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean you can just offhandedly dismiss the documentary. The Amish community is pretty known to have some endemic issues and it's best to think about a major decision like this critically before he attempts to join.
