I am totally scared witless that after death is nothing, oblivion. So much that I was softly pushed towards faith. Is it wrong that because I am afraid of death I started wanting to become a Christian?

By scared witless I mean, even if it is a fraction of a second that I am faced with nothing and even with our Lord holding me at the hour of my death I still would be scared out of my mind.

Oblivion is infinitely preferable to Hell. You should be scared of Hell, not oblivion.

I am equally scared of both. Both nothingness and an eternity of suffering. I enjoy His gift of life, I love it, every second of it; the harsh times, the happy times. All of it. So much that I do not wish it to end ever. But alas, I knew that someday I will have to lose it, either naturally or to give mine to save others or if it is His will if I am called.

Read genisis, the bible as old as it is. Has been basically telling people in a modern day way of putting it. When you die human beings do not just float off into the ether, the black abyss. So if you die, your life here on earth will end your race will be over. And you will either be in heaven, or hell. If you got an orthodox study bible. Read at Sarah's notes at her death and burial. And, if you still have doubt. Look into Nde's Near death experiences, if you're still doubting trying using that as a temporary anchor, but eventually try to get into scripture. Cause from the very beginning the bible clearly says people do not just end up in total nothing after death.

And, if you truly believe then you really shouldn't be afraid of death, maybe be afraid of a painful death. But either way once we die however we never have to go through the process ever again.

Focus more on Heaven. Getting too caught up on this life can be a detriment to both your life in the world to come and in the here and now, but setting your heart on Heaven alone, your life will improve as a byproduct.

That is where I aim towards. I am just not sure if because I want eternal life and heaven I wish to become Christian is a good base or starting point. But I do see your point, until about 2 years ago I was an atheist then I started slowly coming back into faith. At first, out of despair and at the edge of suicide. Then I learned to appreciate life more, both mine and others after coming back.

> Look into Nde's Near death experiences

Do not do this. The vast majority of them are false visions involving a New Age interpretation of Christianity at best.

There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man's whole life is a succession of moment after moment. If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue. Live being true to the single purpose of the moment.

Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead.

When you engage in deep, dreamless sleep you are very content and you wake up feeling refreshed, although you have no distractions and no objects to perceive. Death is similar to this state.

there's nothing to be scared of

Not op, but related

Is the christian death the abandonment of self? I don't want to give up being me. To just accept that one day there will come a dream from which I will never wake, a dream where time and self escape, I have no desire for it.

I'm unsure how everyone else in the faith is so comfortable with it.

>im unsure why everyone else is so cool with death

Because death is an inevitability. Why worry about the inevitable? Sure it seems scary, but if you live life according to Jesus' teachings you shouldn't have to fear death.

Now, not fearing death doesn't mean we will choose death over life (exempting situations where you become a martyr) because that is suicide. Suicide is a mortal sin after all.

Just remember this little quote from St. Augustine (pic related)

>We want to reach the kingdom of God, but we don't want to travel by way of death. And yet there stands Necessity saying: 'This way, please.' Do not hesitate, man, to go this way, when this is the way that God came to you.

No, that was the Holy Spirit trying to serve you a wake-up call, but it's still your choice if you choose to stay asleep.

For many are called, but few are chosen. (Matthew 22:14)

It's a shame you choose to twist God's Word with your satanic way of thinking. It's an even greater shame you choose to go to the pit to live with the devil instead of humbling yourself and following Jesus Christ. Adam chose to eat the forbidden fruit, and you made your choice. Good luck.

We all come to Christ for the basest of reasons.

It's what we do with our new faith when we finally see the truth that truly matters.

That said, your continued fixation on death suggests to me that you have too little faith in Christ's ability and power to save
