Hello /christian/, I've actually never posted here before, but I've been put in quite a predicament and I'd like to hear all of your opinions.

About a month ago, I had a conversation on my college campus with a Christian fellow who invited me to a scripture reading/Bible group. I said I'd take him up on his offer. I thought it would be a nice way to meet some people my age who were also Christian.

Long story short, the group of people I met are part of what is called the International Christian Church. I went to a few of their services, made some friends, but it still has been rubbing me the wrong way.

This is a very fundamentalist group. They also have some distinctive beliefs of their own. For example, Christians must be "disciples", and "disciples" must follow a certain doctrine which is to not only have faith and pray to God, but ALSO to spread the word (kind of like Jehovah's Witnesses, I guess?) and also to be baptized as an adult. I was baptized as a child, which according to them, is not a legitimate baptism. Because I have not been "legitimately" baptized, I would in fact, go to hell if I were to get hit by a truck today.

If you're curious about what exactly they believe, and what their criteria for a "true Christian/disciple" is, I have their manifesto/ideology here:

What is your opinion of this kind of Christian fundamentalism? What would you do in my position? What makes a true Christian? This has been an interesting and truly dramatic experience for me thus far, but I feel like I don't truly trust this church's teachings.

Image related. :^)

You likely feel uneasy about their teachings because you believe they are wrong. I'm not sure what to tell you other than above.

>What is your opinion of Christian fundamentalism?

Trash because they ignore the spiritual teachings of the Jews in the OT and of Jesus and Paul in the NT. Good works are nice, but a complete misrepresentation of all taught is wrong.

>What would you do in my position?

Find a better fellowship group.

>What makes you a true Christian?

Not to sin against the images of God, to realize your true nature, and to follow in the way of Christ, realizing such perfection is possible RIGHT NOW. Being purified of false deceptions by the Spirit, being filled by the Spirit, and then becoming as the Spirit which you are given and are. That is the mission of a Christian, the entire religion distills into those 3 things at it's core (though it is often lost).

The early church practiced pedobaptism. You need to get back into somewhere with theological roots, apostolics or Lutherans, eg.
