This question is for the people who read Genesis non-literally:

Did God mean the agrarian revolution when he talked about the fall from Eden? I heard someone propose this theory (who may or may not have been Christian)

But it would make sense that God wanted the sons of Adam to build civilization and be chaste, and not rely on paganistic worship with gods like Venus (called the morning star) to bring fertility, probably this tells us Satan deceived many peoples to worship fertility and cling to the primitive, polytheistic past?

>God wanted the sons of Adam to build civilization and be chaste

I'm not so sure about this since the first city and civilised arts were founded by Cain and his family, and ever since cities have done much to cultivate and incubate some of the worst atrocities against Divine Law, from Sodom to San Francisco.

As for polytheism, it was pretty much just misguided man trying to find divinity in just about everything other than Divinity Itself, so they started worshiping seasons, stars, clouds etc. It's from this kind of monotheistic animism that anthropomorphised polytheism emerged, and not all at once, either.

You mean god wanted Cain to do that? Wtf are you talking dude

That is literally the opposite of what I said.

Read it again.

Yes but cities are the result of the fall don’t forget. So it will include sins and evil too. But that’s the fruit of knowledge my friend.

Also gods of fertility, who are nearly always female if not always, I don’t know exactly, are associated with lust, morning star, there is even a story of a god attar (ishtar in some places, maybe you know her as Astarte or the Greek Aphrodite, Roman Venus- called the morning star) was supposed to be leader after Ba’al dies but he fell.

54733c No.618004

not equating god with Ba’al but this sounds like Satan was known among pagans and worshipped

Oh just read athtar is a male, not the others though

Probably simply to do with the fact that human and animal females were seen as creators of life, so it would make sense that any pantheon would be the same. There are some interesting cross-overs, though, since Ishtar, as you mention was also a god of war and erotic lust, and Roman Mars was also associated with fertility.

This was the opinion of many old Christians, that pagan idols were actually demons, hence their supernatural qualities.

Okay back to the city question - agrarian revolution is the fall from Eden. Agreed? You don’t seem to argue against it?

Another thing I noticed

Hunter gatherers don’t really have corruption and are very good people in general

I'd say so, yes, or at the very least, it's the point at which everything starts to go seriously wrong for mankind, especially since recently the archaeological record was flipped on its head by the discovery of places like Gobekli tepe, which predate both the urban and neolithic revolutions, and indicate that nomadic or semi-nomadic peoples were building massive stationary temple complexes, without any adjoining "civilisation".

They are simple and frank, but I wouldn't call them "good", when their primitive lifestyles often put them brutally at odds with other peoples.

I haven't read Revelation yet but isn't the 'new heaven and new earth' comprised of the most beautiful city conceivable where everyone has their own dwelling and no ones needs go unmet?

Cities are bad because of the fallen nature of the inhabitants, they're not inherently bad in themselves.

>Cities are bad because

* I meant "Cities aren't bad because.." ofc
