I'm currently considering converting to Orthodoxy and was wondering what the correct way to pray is. I currently just go onto my knees, cross myself and then recite the prayer. I'm not entirely sure if this is correct and would like to know the proper way to pray. Also what are some good sources for prayers, books or something of the sort. Thanks!

Get a prayer book, it'll help a lot.

The standard praying position is standing. Also, every prayer session should be introduced with these prayers:

>Glory to you, our God, glory to you.

>Heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who are present everywhere filling all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us. Cleanse us of every stain, and save our souls, gracious Lord.

>Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (3).

>Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

>All holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, forgive our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your name’s sake.

>Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

>Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

>Our Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

>For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

In america, me personally i know not everyone was raised up this way. But i was always taught that it was best to pray at your bedside in prayer, as a sort of respect, and obedience to god. But in orthodoxy why a standing prayer? And does god count it against us, if we don't stand/ start off our prayers? Or start with an opener like *Our father who art in heaven* Etc?

we are called to pray without ceasing. so you can, and you should, pray everywhere regardless of what you are doing, wether you have a prayer book with you or not. the prayer book is good for getting into a routine and getting discipline. asking a priest about this would be good I think. God bless

We pray at our iconostasis rather than at our bedside.

I don't know why standing is the standard over kneeling, but you can also bow, kneel, and prostrate.

God will obviously not be angry at you if you don't pray while standing.

And, at the very least, every prayer should be opened with the "Heavenly King." We should ask for the Holy Spirit to come pray within us before we actually do our prayer. But again, it's not a crime to ormit it either.

Every time you get knocked down, you get back up. Prayer is part of getting back up, so if you pray with your whole being, you should stand as you do it.

Don't be hard on yourself if you don't have a habit of this. It's a good practice for full prayer, not a law.
