What does /christian/ think of Rasputin? He believed that giving into sin in necessary for salvation:

>He also maintained that sin and repentance were interdependent and necessary to salvation. Thus, he claimed that yielding to temptation (and, for him personally, this meant sex and alcohol), even for the purposes of humiliation (so as to dispel the sin of vanity), was needed to proceed to repentance and salvation.

Apparently he had power to heal through prayer (just like Christ did):

>During the summer of 1912, Alexei developed a hemorrhage in his thigh and groin after a jolting carriage ride near the royal hunting grounds at Spala, which caused a large hematoma.[39] In severe pain and delirious with fever, the Tsarevich appeared to be close to death.[40] In desperation, the Tsarina asked Vyrubova to send Rasputin (who was in Siberia) a telegram, asking him to pray for Alexei.[41] Rasputin wrote back quickly, telling the Tsarina that "God has seen your tears and heard your prayers. Do not grieve. The Little One will not die. Do not allow the doctors to bother him too much."[41] The next morning, Alexei's condition was unchanged, but Alexandra was encouraged by the message and regained some hope that Alexei would survive. Alexei's bleeding stopped the following day.[41]

>Historian Robert K. Massie has called Alexei's recovery "one of the most mysterious episodes of the whole Rasputin legend."

Also "if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;" (Mark 16:18):

>Yusupov offered Rasputin tea and cakes which had been laced with cyanide. At first, Rasputin refused the cakes, but then began to eat them. To Yusupov's surprise, Rasputin did not appear to be affected by the poison.[60] Rasputin then asked for some Madeira wine (which had also been poisoned) and drank three glasses, but still showed no sign of distress.

He also gave following correct prophecy to the Tsar, which almost came true (it was actually 7.5 months):

>If I die or you desert me, you will lose your son and your crown within six months.

Obviously he seems like a heretic, yet those miracles are very remarkable.

Do not know much about him except that is he is an enigma and people tend to exaggerate rumours and tales about him, particularly his death. Some say he is a heretic and his "sect" practises orgy, etc. Another being that he drinks a lot while some accounts says that he does not drink because he cannot handle alcohol at all.

> Another being that he drinks a lot while some accounts says that he does not drink because he cannot handle alcohol at all.

I think the consensus is that he was constantly drunk almost all the time.

That is exactly why I said he is an enigma. Very little are known about him, the rest are rumours, hearsays, exaggerations, etc. As if those are not bad enough, now throw the popular media and culture into the mix and the peoples conception of him is whatever the most popular, tantalising, and entertaining and this becomes the "accepted fact" or "consensus".

For all we know, he could have just been a simple faith healer of the Orthodox Church that got his head on a cross-hair because he healed the royal son. Russia during that period was very politically tumultuous.

>Correct prophecy

>Almost

Well, which one it it?

>Well, which one is it?

The tsar lost his crown within 4 months, and the son died within 7.5, so the average of the two is within 6.

>He believed that giving into sin is necessary for salvation

This means that any "miracles" or "prophecies" he gave were likely the result of prelest.

Unless that quote was fake or he changed his mind that is.

Why aren't there any Eastern Orthodox on this board defending or explaining Rasputin? It's obvious this guy is demonic. Just because you slap on a Christian label on yourself doesn't mean you're actually a follower of Jesus Christ. Look at the recent scandal that happened to the previous president of South Korea with her "Christian" psychic.

>Why aren't there any Eastern Orthodox on this board defending or explaining Rasputin?

Because there is so much weird information out that that we cannot know what is true and what is propaganda. This is a case of "let God sort them out".

>He believed that giving into sin in necessary for salvation

"What then, shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace, by no means" - Paul

Believing that there's some kind of salvific property to indulging in sin was common among occultists in that era.

what happened to flags anyway? I only come here to post sporadically and the interdenominational bantz was one of the things that always brought me back.

A bit disappointed to see that they're gone
