why is it good for me to "love all" unconditionally? to me it makes more sense to love the exceptional, the strong and beautiful ones who embody the good and live according to wisdom and are similar to me.

I disdain the ugly, the alien, weak and vulgar masses. They have different values, goals and priorities. Insofar as their actions are petty and ugly I have no love for them.

The only love I have a is a potential love, if they changed and improved them I could love them, but in their fallen states it would be dishonest for me to "love" them.

you seem to think you're better than everyone but you're not

>better than everyone

no, there are smarter and better people than me, and also dumber and worse people than me.

Because God made them too, and Jesus commands you to. Do you need any other reason

Yea, does Jesus command you to love the devil? Or just thy neighbor?

do you interpret neighbor to be someone in close proximity to your house?

do you know who "neighbor" encompasses?

Ah, you are in "that phase". When life teaches you something about humility (about your real "value"), and about the reasons for being good and merciful with everyone, come back. You will be well received. That path is not pleasant, but it is a good way to learn why.

I struggle with this feeling too, brother. The closest I've come to the ideal of "love thy neighbor" is politely leaving them be to do whatever it is they're doing, and to be kind to the people who are in my life. The ironic thing is that I don't particularly love myself in the first place. Perhaps you are in a similar mindset? I'll keep you in my prayers.

Love is willing the good of another. Love is perfected by going out of your way to help others achieve that good without looking for your own gain, and also by loving even those hate you.

Hating others for their "weakness" is not a sign of strength or exceptionality, it probably means that you value yourself more than you're actually worth, and to keep up that idea you need to decrease others' worth in your own eyes and overblow their faults.

I was of this mindset once, and don't really know how else to advise you. It's only because God revealed to me my own weakness and imperfection that I mostly abandoned it.

You seem to have missed the point of the message. Like other things of faith it's something that requires one to go against instinctual logic.

Matthew 5:43-48

Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy: but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you; that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust. For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same? Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

It also needs to be understood in the context of Leviticus 19.

Because God is the strongest and loves all out of charity, there's no strong, good, or beautiful. There's only God.

God calls you to love everyone for their own sake, not because you admire or want something from that person. This is the virtue of charity.

liking/disliking, has nothing to do with love, which is an act of the will (to will the good of the other). I love a lot of people that I dislike.

Consider how insignificant you are compared to God, yet He still loves you, not because of your qualities or because He gets something from this love. You sin against God day and night, yet he patiently waits so you have a chance to convert.

I recommend reading the story of st Christopher.

God in His mercy loves humanity despite its degraded state. Knowing this and retreating into misanthropy is like telling the Lord that He should take that salvation away, it'd just be wasted on a fallen man like you.

You know nothing about morality. Once you realize you yourself are full of vice and failure to live up to the ideal, you will be willing to tolerate other's flaws just as the creator tolerates yours.
