Anyone here just tired of the omnipresence of technology in our lives? I can't work or study without everything being on a screen. Cellphones and social media completely alienated a whole generation and many older people fell into the same trap. I can't help but feel all this distraction is part of why the world reject religion. They are so far removed from actual human life and experience, it is like living in a dream.

I hate it.

I want to sell everything electronic I have and live a simple life where I can enjoy creation and a Godly life. But that means rejecting everything. All friends only talk through them, all jobs or university/school require you do everything on them. Why is it like this? Maybe I am just a luddite, but this hyperactive, virtual, commercial life seems like a cancer on the human mind that is the main source of the atheist psychosis and all anxiety disorder. I want to work in a wheat field and come back home to pray with my wife and kids before eating a simple dinner. I want to spend evening next to a fire, telling stories to my kids without them only staring a tablet or cellphone.

Anyone else share this feel?

I know exactly what you mean anon.

Unfortunately, I would consider myself rather gifted in the technology field, so there's no reason for me to give it up other than "being away from the handheld demon"

This will only get worse, won't it? When will the ride end

My real concern is the rapid growth and devlopment of VR. You think people are dumb animals now? Wait for when everyone is ensconced in their own little hellish "paradise" where the most debauched fantasies can become real to them. It will be one of the final strokes of the world I think.

The neverending acceleration of information in this age is, indeed quite distressing. But the rejection of religion proper happened far before the internet, or even computers (see: The Enlightenment).

I myself have been granted gifts relating to working with technology, so what I find far more distressing is the culture of instant gratification and the utter lack of self control that's being promoted, probably through the breakneck pace of information itself and how it's being used to sell us ever more novel "things" of this earth, instead of helping us reach the greatest understanding of our Lord, who shall not perish as time goes by. Hope this helps.
