Read Philemon again - it may be the most amusing epistle in the Bible. The context is Onesimus was Philemon's runaway slave, and Onesimus literally means "useful." He's not telling them what to do, but he's STRONGLY inferring what the right thing to do is.

I find it interesting that Paul never says anything about slavery being "wrong" or "immoral." He basically says

>hey remember your runaway slave? he's a christian now and he's been really useful as an evangelist.

>i'm sending him back to where you are. would you do me a favor as a friend, and free him?

>btw if he owes you any money or anything like, did he steal you blind when he ran off just put it on my account.

It's very similar in many ways to another passage that is quite telling in what it says and doesn't say. When Peter smites the ear off the high priest's servant, and Jesus does NOT say

<yo, pete, what the fuck are you doing with a goddam sword? we're supposed to be PACIFISTS here! throw that damn thing away!

No, instead, Jesus says

>put the sword up, because i must go willingly as my time has come

>Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Luke 22:36

Jesus told him to buy one

Naw, not the issue of pacifism, the issue was that Jesus being taken was supposed to happen. He wasn't chastising Peter for violence in general, he was chastising Peter for -wanting- violence. A christian should never want violence, but Peter was spoiling for a fight. Doesn't mean there's never a time for violence- but that wasn't it.

Yeah, but he also told the disciples exactly what was going to happen to them. Peter knew, he just didn't like that plan. He had to be told that his role wasn't to save Jesus, but to spread the gospel.
