>The modern bourgeoisie culture is inherently materialist
The Middle Class is certainly materialist, yes, but more materialist than the other classes? That doesn't seem very likely to me.
Materialist doesn't mean wealthy enough to buy nice things. It means an over focus on things of this world over things of the world to come. In which case it's a competition between the Middle and Working classes for least materialistic, and between the Welfare and Upper classes for most materialistic.
As some people have mentioned a lot of billionaires and software engineers dress quite casually. This is NOT humility, but in many cases is actually arrogance, particularly among the billionaires and the more intelligent engineers. (Among the less-intelligent engineers it could also be apathy, and ignorance instead of arrogance)
"Other people might dress up for work, but I won't; I'm too important for that." It comes from the belief that we're the most important man in the room, not from any sort of humility. (This belief is actually often well founded, at least by worldly reckoning)
This is a concerning enough attitude when taken to a meeting with co-workers or customers, but when taken to a meeting with the Almighty Creator of the Universe it's downright scary.
(Of course a suit would be excessive in many areas and churches; mine you only see full suits on major feast days, but you can still put a bit of effort into dressing neatly and formally)
