Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

First time poster on /christian/ and on 8chan in general, so I apologize in advance if anything I say is considered to be uncouth. I'm an agnostic who attended church service for the first time this last Sunday. It was a small Anglican church. The pastor there invited me to have a conversation over coffee and I accepted. What are your thoughts on Anglicanism?

I’d have to look it up and form an opinion first. tbh

I did. I don't really have much to base it on, but I did some shopping around so to speak, made sure that I wasn't going to attend a church that was filled with psychopaths. This was the place that I felt was best and had doctrines that I was comfortable following. Also, the way you phrased it seems like that Anglicanism is something of a dirty word here. Is that true? If it is, why is that?

i think you should do your research, bud. itll point you in the right direction. but basically anglicans are the church that split off of the catholic church initially because of Henry VIII and his issues with anullment. now in 2018 theres anglicans clamoring for gay rights and female priests and all this bullshit. why wouldnt you want the most authentic christian belief if you’re converting?

Precisely! I'm glad you support OP joining the Orthodox Church.

To seriously address your post, it's for a couple reasons. First, there are many more Catholics than Anglicans here, and given the shared history of the two churches there's obviously some bad blood even when both are at their Sunday best. Unfortunately, Anglicanism (specifically low church Anglicanism) hasn't been putting forth its best foot lately with plenty of poor choices and bad publicity. They make an easy target.

With that said, there are plenty of good Anglican churches, so don't let funposting ruin your budding Christian life.

not true. anglicans have prettier and nicer-sounding english-language liturgy. assuming that some lesbian harpy pastor isn't the one in charge of the parish

The Anglican church was founded by a bloodthirsty king who wanted a divorce. Initially schismatic, it was soon taken over by protestants like Thomas Cranmer who introduced the 39 articles, which amongst other things, denies the sacraments in article 25 including orders. Anglicans by definition do not believe Christ ordained holy orders thus without the intention to ordain, Anglicans lost the ability to ordain and no longer have holy orders or the Eucharist. This means they are most definitely outside of the catholic church in which there is no salvation. You might find nice friendly people and nice services in the Anglican church but you won't find salvation. Go to a Catholic mass or Eastern liturgy but there is no point in being Anglican over Catholic.
