Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

Hello /christian/, how do I repent for all of the degenerate and self destructive things that I've done? I was raised by secular parents who basically taught "do as thou wilt". I've lived a life of sin, but I want to turn to God. I feel horrible about everything.

Hello, fellow droid. I posted in your thread.

I very much share this feel. Send help please.

Repent means to change your mind. Now, most of us believe that you can't actually come to that change of mind of your own power, but that's evidence the will of God is working within you. To understand the will of God further, you should engage with the church and the scriptures. I'd recommend visiting a parish on Sunday, sitting through the service - don't take communion, and talking to the priest after, who will likely schedule an appointment to talk to you further. This kind of work is the kind of work they love to do, you will make their week and be of great (possibly infinite) benefit to you as well. In the interim, here are three good catechisms that will help to explain what Christians believe, you should read them:

Same to you! I forget whose sermon I'm paraphrasing here, but there's a feeling of freedom in doing whatever you want, but if you're doing bad things, you're not really free, you're falling, and it hurts to hit ground.

In our services, we ask, together, for God's forgiveness. Some older rites have the priest say a few particular chosen quotes from the Bible reminding us that God actually does forgive sins - they're known as the comfortable words. I've pasted them below - they're good news for us in the church, and they're good news for you too:

Come unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.    Matthew 11:28

God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.    John 3:16

This is a true saying, and worthy of all men to be received, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

1 Timothy 1:15

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the perfect offering for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole

world.    1 John 2:1-2

Thank you very much! Seeing these verses next to each other is very comforting.

I started visiting the catechism classes at a Catholic (very traditional, not saying what exactly) parish. Though I haven't been there a lot lately, not because I want to give up or anything but because I just wasn't feeling very good and it's really far to drive from where I live. Now I'm kinda scared about the priest's reaction when I finally come back again. The parish is really great and the people are lovely, I just don't really feel like I fit in.

I'm also a depessed NEET and have been crying a lot over the last days. This probably isn't the best place to talk about these things and I'm not trying to hijack OP's thread but idk…

It's just that I read a few pages in De Imitatione Christi, then I look at my own life in comparison and despair instead of doing what I should do.

So, Confession is the manner by which we restore a right relationship with God. What do we mean by that? We are the sinner in need of grace, he is the loving father. How loving? Read the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). Go back. Learn the faith. Don't worry about being perfect, because you won't be. Try to do the will of God, and trust in the forgiveness of sins.

I hope you, don't have to drive very far to find a near parish near you. You don't have to be a super traditionalist to be a real Christian. If you want to become Christian, the way in is the same for everybody - through the baptismal font, whether gilded or poured from a paper cup. If you want to become Catholic, god willing there's a nice parish near you. It might help you to find to a priest or deacon nearer to you, as they can help you work through some of these issues, and closer is easier for both you and him.

Well, I'd like to go to confession one day even though I'm very scared of it. I will be going back obviously. I should do exactly what you are saying, I know that. Just doing it is something else.

And I don't think I will be going to another parish in all honesty. I might as well say it, they are SSPX.

Oh and since you mentioned it, I am already baptised, even though it was done by a Lutheran. My upbringing was very secular nonetheless.

I don't know the current state of SSPX-Rome relations so I'll leave that to others. But you might consider making the Jesus prayer part of your daily life. It will help keep you thinking correctly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Prayer

And congratulations! You have been baptized and are grafted to God's own family, a child by adoption.

Thank you. But already I usually pray it a few times before going to bed, haha. Still, thanks for taking all this time, God bless you,

Say an act of contrition. You can find one online. And then intend to be baptised/confess your sins to a priest, get confirmed in the catholic church and receive the Eucharist.

/r9k/s mods deleted that thread. They hate anything associated with Christianity.
