Why are openly fat/gluttonous clergy allowed to preach and teach people? I don't mean big priests who lift and eat a lot to be strong, but the lazy fat bastards who eat out of gluttony because they are slaves to their tongues and bellies.

I notice this phenomena is most common among catholics, not so much among protestant "clergy" or orthodox.

Good question

> I notice this phenomena is most common among catholics, not so much among protestant "clergy" or orthodox.

But I feel like this is just going to lead to useless turd flinging

>priest has problem with gluttony

>implying

Is there something wrong with these men teaching? Rebuke them for being gluttons, but that alone does not justify ignoring what they have to quote out of the Bible or to say of themselves.

With such a niche, specific question like this, you gotta get a bit shitposty to induce discussion.

I would reject a homosexual priest just as quickly as an obese priest

I've literally never seen an obese priest. Fat priests, sometimes, but only Aquinas-tier fat.

I'm a bit confused. By obese you mean american-tier fatness?

If yes then it's also case for me. Also it's mostly the middle-aged and older priests.

Honestly, there could be a million reasons as to why someone packs on the pounds: Slower metabolism, how their body stores fat, thyroid issues, body type, etc.

Improper dieting. It's usually not that they're eating too much so much as they aren't eating correctly, in addition to lack of exercise.

Tumblr's problem is that they eat very poor food full of unhealthy trans fats and sugar, which cause many other issues to their health then just their size.

You are correct in that maintaining a healthy body is more difficult for some people than others. That isn't an excuse to not make out a concerted effort to live in a healthy body though. At the end of the day, the number of people that are simply not capable of having a healthy body weight with a reasonable amount of effort is very, very small. Meanwhile about one in three Americans are obese. Many Christians are obese even, and they turn a blind eye to their own sin or the sins of their brethren because its a culturally sensitive topic.

There is a reason why we think fat bodies are disgusting, because its a twisted abomination of what God intended you to look like. Its not just about aesthetics either, heart disease is the number one killer in America, sin kills, obesity kills, and its wrong to promote fat acceptance because you are encouraging people to be gluttonous sloths who desecrate the image of God with their gross bodies, and they are literally killing themselves.

I recognise and am grafeful for the fact that my parents fed me properly when I was a child. The not uncommon experience of being a fattened child born to irresponsible parents is the main excuse that cuts ice with me.

I started training at 15 when I was skinny and people noticed the change quickly. If I had to dedicate a year of training just to roll back the damage my parents did and look like a normal person, no doubt I'd suffer from motivation issues, fear of stretch marks, self loathing, and the rest.
