Do you think that those outside of your religion can truly exorcise?

For instance: if you're Orthodox or Catholic, do you think that Protestants can exorcise?

To extend the matter: do you think that Shinto, Muslims, Mormons, Hindus, etc. can actually exorcise?

64f485 No.595177

Christ's name expels demons because His name is holy, not the exorcist's. Just as the Church is holy not for the sanctity of its members but for the sanctity of its founder.

The person who invokes Christ's name has to be indwelled with the Spirit otherwise we could baptize ourselves.

>>595173

I honestly have no idea. I could believe that a Catholic priest performed an exorcism but I could also believe that it was a hoax. As for religions who deny Christ - not a chance. You can't expel demons with the spirit of antichrist.

Yes, it's by Christ's work. We had a guy who had demonic oppression, it went away with formation and baptism. I'd have doubts about other religions, though the Jews may be a special case. However, God will have grace on whom he will.

>And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

>But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

>For he that is not against us is on our part.

>For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

Mark 9:38-41

>To extend the matter: do you think that Shinto, Muslims, Mormons, Hindus, etc. can actually exorcise?

Kingdom of Devil is not divided against itself. Demons act as if it was exorcism in mockery of true faith but it's just going from demonic possession to shittone of demonic possession.

>Do you think that those outside of your religion can truly exorcise? For instance: if you're Orthodox or Catholic, do you think that Protestants can exorcise?

But the evil spirit answering, said to them: Jesus I know, and Paul I know: but who are you?

Even Catholic exorcists acknowledge that Protestants can cast out demons in Christ's name.

However, "Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?"

You people should read the Book of Acts, seriously. Most common stuff is answered in it. For example, we can know >>595177 is wrong because:

Acts 19:13-16 Now there were some itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but you, who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house, naked and wounded.

If you're truly Christian you can do it to a certain extend. However, only those of apostolic succession and those appointed by them have true authority to cast out demons (that goes especially for some of the more strong ones). That comes from the Bible.

ca0f0f No.595452

>>595417

If this conversation had gone in a different way, someone would have quoted >>595287 first and then Acts 19 would have followed. Why do you think one piece of scripture overrides another?

Either way, it just seems the requirement for salvation and for exorcising demons is different.

ef849a No.595472

>>595452

>Why do you think one piece of scripture overrides another?

That question is better suited to yourself. Christ clearly states that people will be able to cast out demons in His name, and yet, will still be liable to judgement. Do you recall the Jews attempted to cast out in His name, and were beaten by demons?

What about those who ARE able to, but are still liable to judgement? Would this invalidate sola fide?

ef849a No.595476

>>595364

Additionally; will you claim that the Jews did not pronounce the right "formula" for exorcism? Or did they (quite clearly) lack faith? If you require faith alone to cast out demons in the name of Christ, then Christ says "Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?"

You've lost coherence to the point I am not sure what kind of argument you're trying to make. I am merely debunking >>595177 and I'm not sure what anything you just said has to do with that.

64f485 No.595507

>>595488

You're basically saying Christ's name is insufficient when banishing a demon.

ca0f0f No.595525

The Bible* is basically saying Christ's name is insufficient when banishing a demon.

cc0291 No.595532

i'm pretty sure there's a story in the gospels about someone NOT an apostle or follower of christ who is casting out demons in his name. i wonder what jesus said to the apostles about that?

>>595525

Is Christ's name holy?

43454a No.595668

I remember once reading online how a Muslim exorcist was once shocked at seeing a christian exorcism work the same way his own techniques worked. I suppose it makes sense because heresy aside Muslims are at least exorcising in the name of the God of Israel and out of charity, and if the exorcist had an evil spirit it would be a kingdom divided and therefore ineffectual (I think). Beyond that I doubt it, and it's really not a question that can be answered apart from hard evidence in favor of non-Abrahamic exorcisms.
