ITT we tell interesting stories from our time witnessing/soul winning.

>earlier this week

>go to black town

>door to door

>walk up on car with two black guys

>they smokin' weed heavy

>give 'em tracts

>ask 'em if they know where they going when they die

>one guy starts tellin' me about how he lives a good life

>start tellin' him about Jesus

>he interrupts

>"Ya know the bible doesn't say anything bout Jesus"

>starts tellin' me how I should use the name yeshua instead of Jesus

>he doesn't even believe in the deity of Christ

>tell him the gospel and advise him to read john 1 when he can

Found out latter that the whole town has been infested with Black Hebrew Israelitism.

Still haven't been able to get the weed smell out of my nose.

whats wrong with Yeshua ? the etymology of that name is beautiefull and points out how he is "God is salvation", his very nature contained in the name that he was given.

And mind you that "Jesus" quite literally comes from "Yeshua"

i would have expected especially you baptists to more embrace linguistics in this one since its all about etymological symbolism in scripture, but i guess even your too superficial for that

I don't know, people here seem to believe He was literally called Jesus or at least Iesous during his life. Honestly I think it's just because Yeshua 'sounds Jewish' and this place has a lot of cross-traffic from /pol/.

it has nothing to do with those people, im sitting here in bavaria and have got no fricking clue what youre on about, the actual lingual name of Jesus is Yeshua and thats a fact, the reality of his being is perfectly conveyd in the etymology of that name too, so i just dont see how you would actually take a shit on his original name like that, its just insane from my perspective.

>Honestly I think it's just because Yeshua 'sounds Jewish'

Serious question? It's actually because that's what the word of God says his name is, and God doesn't make mistakes. People swapping out different names are simply denying Philippians 2:10 and they are teaching it's actually a different name than what is plainly written there in plain letters. It's an implicit denial of or rejection of the Scripture as being a mistake. The fact it comes with Judaizing "hebrew roots" is just a bonus.

You mean the KJV? So because a 17th century translation called him Jesus that's his name? Or you mean Iesous in the Greek? Iesous is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua. Jesus was a Hebrew not a Greek, He had a Hebrew name.

It depends on what language you're speaking. If you're a Hebrew speaking Israeli Christian, call him Yeshua. If you're in an English speaking country though, the only people who call him Yeshua are Judaizers. Even wikipedia says as much

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeshua

>The Hebrew spelling Yeshua (ישוע‬) appears in some later books of the Hebrew Bible.

>It differs from the usual Hebrew Bible spelling of Joshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ‬ y'hoshuaʿ)

>It also differs from the Hebrew spelling Yeshu (ישו‬) which is found in Ben Yehuda's dictionary and used in most secular contexts in Modern Hebrew to refer to Jesus of Nazareth, although the Hebrew spelling Yeshua (ישוע‬) is generally used in translations of the New Testament into Hebrew[3] and used by Hebrew speaking Christians in Israel.

>The name Yeshua is also used in Israelite Hebrew historical texts to refer to other Joshuas recorded in Greek texts such as Jesus ben Ananias and Jesus ben Sira.[4]

>In English, the name Yeshua is extensively used by followers of Messianic Judaism,[5] whereas East Syrian Christian denominations use the name Isho in order to preserve the Aramaic or Syriac name of Jesus.[6]

Calling Jesus "Yeshua" as an English speaker is similar to calling God "Allah." Sure, Allah literally just means God and it's used by Arabic speaking Christians, but in English Allah is only used by English-speaking-Muslims. Arab Christians in America say "God" unless they're praying in their native language.

That's the issue with Yeshua. If you call him that, and you're not speaking Hebrew normally, you're probably a Judaizer and a heretic

>>595295

He did live at a time where Greek was the lingua franca, it's not impossible that he was called Jesus

The KJV didn't invent the name of Jesus you weirdo. This board is probably the only the place in the world where anti-KJV-onlyists have nuttier conspiracy theories than KJV-onlyists

>Iesous is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua. Jesus was a Hebrew not a Greek, He had a Hebrew name.

If you're reading the same New Testament as the rest of us, His name is derived from the same Greek in every single instance. It is given in the original Greek New Testament. This is a simple fact. So maybe you think there were some mistakes and now you have to step in to correct this, all I can tell you is read Proverbs 3:5 and take heed lest you fall. I fully believe every letter of Philippians 2:9-11, including the literal name given there. So here's the direct English rendering.

Philippians 2:9-11

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

>>595311

It's even worse because modern "Hebrew" is a fake language that was first spoken around 1880. Before that, the original Hebrew language was completely dead for over a thousand years. Nobody today knows what it was really like. And all of the vocalization renderings in modern "Hebrew" are therefore completely inauthentic.

>The KJV didn't invent the name of Jesus you weirdo.

No one claimed that. The baptist said the historical name of the messiah had to be Jesus because 'the word of God' said his name was Jesus. At least on this board, most baptists believe 'the word of God'=KJV. So it was a reasonable extrapolation. And of course in the Greek it was Iesous, pronounced Yay-zeus, which sounds completely different from Gee-zuz anyway (in the KJV it was also spelled Iesus but I believe the I was pronounced like a J at that time. But that definitely wasn't the case in the Biblical Greek).

>He did live at a time where Greek was the lingua franca, it's not impossible that he was called Jesus

Yes but he was a Hebrew at a time that his people were attempting to preserve their culture from being eroded by Roman influence. It would've been unusual to say the least for him to have a Greek or Latin name. Also Matthew 1:21 says he will be called Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. That is a reference to the name in Hebrew, Yeshua, which means salvation or YHWH's salvation.
