Any other fans of HPL on /christian/?

I realize he was an atheist who hated Christianity, but I find most of his stories can be read as a warning against dabbling with the occult. Every one of his characters look for "secret knowledge" and it ends up destroying them every time.

cfa62b No.592552

Used to. I can't read his work with a sound conscience anymore (especially given the literal blasphemy in Charles Dexter Ward), but his overall "morals" are definitely true. You can't control the occult, no matter how falsely confident you are.

e5aa2d No.592558

Nope. I liked it as general horror and mystery settings, but grimdarkness and "humans are garbage" tone is annoying is hell. These tones are what I generally despise in most of fantasy settings. Except Warhammer 40k (probably because it actually laughs at these. British humour and all)

He's one of my favorite fiction authors.

My favorite story is Shadow over Innsmoth.

ccbd83 No.592561

Heard of him a lot. Never had occasion to read anything.

Here here. I usually love his work but sometimes I can't read it with a clear conscience, like the Dunwitch Horror…

Even by early 20th century New England standards, he was considered racist.

>>592561

His sonnets are rather nice.

>>592682

^Entirely. He was a man without hope.

wew. thanks pol. Next thing you’re going to be telling me is that his nose looks a little large in the picture. Is it just the shadow? I think that’s a pretty big nose. In other news is this really the best this board can do on a Monday? It really is kind of dead here.

This board has taken a nosedive in quality recently.

Well he did marry a jewess. What insight into spiritual betterment were you really expecting from casual discussion of an atheist short novelist? But if you're just here to air your booty-blasting to the world and would prefer to be insulated from anyone who doesn't love BASED niggers I might suggest going back to plebbit's christian board.

This is 8chan, we're in a continual state of declining quality.

If it were not the case I would think something was wrong.

Contain your buzzwords, /pol/yp.

Even during his time, he was considered way too racist towards irish, germans, blacks and italians compared to the norm.

I was surprised to see that he wrote short stories. Despite me disagreeing with his views, I'm glad that he portrayed occultism in a negative manner as opposed to a cool/empowering thing like media portrays it now.

Anyone got occult type fiction like his, no matter how it's portrayed, or the actual blasphemous tracts and what not? I find this shit really interesting to read. It's a good genre of fiction if you treat it that way.
