I really like them. I like noise, industrial, experimental, electronic, and rap, and DG is all of that. However, a lot of their music is written in character as the beast from Revelation, and honestly I don’t know how to feel about that. Here are some lyric samples just from their first album, so you can see what I mean

>I close my eyes and seize it, I clench my fists and beat it, I light my torch and burn it, I am the beast I worship

>Worship is not on bended knee. Nature knows not of mercy. To pray is to accept defeat. Power pisses on the weak. Bow and beheaded by the beast

>Tie the chord, kick the chair and you're dead

>Head of a trick in a bucket, body of a trick in a bag, and thrown in the fire like fuck it, gotta burn it before it goes bad. One too many times been disgusted by the stench of rot is such a drag

>I fuck the music, I make it cum, I fuck the music with my serpent tongue

>Into the flame, into the fire with no regard for a thing, fuck that I'm the lord of the game. I rule this empire - I am the God of hell fire!

>Ten, nine, eight, seven, triple six, five, forked tongue

>Upside down cross on the Jumbotron - Wait up, hold on - Blowing anthrax off my palms say what, you're wrong

>Never seen without one hundred (she's a satanic priestess)

>Let them eat shit and die as I creep lit off the deep hits with a sick mind on the secrets I rely 'pon to freak this

>Long as it's done well, and they promise not to tell, We could do this like an orgy in the bowels of hell

That’s not even all of it, those are just select examples. Any thoughts on this?

I FUCK THE MUSIC

>>590835 (OP)

No piece or genre of music is of itself inherently evil.

Its moral value depends on the listener - does this music cause you to sin? Does it cause unjustified (see the principle of double effect) scandal? If you can appreciate the beauty of the music without it making you or someone else sin, then go ahead.

it's bad to fill your head with this shit.

if you're going about your day, and these lyrics pop into your head:

>Into the flame, into the fire with no regard for a thing, fuck that I'm the lord of the game. I rule this empire - I am the God of hell fire!

>Long as it's done well, and they promise not to tell, We could do this like an orgy in the bowels of hell

that's not good, it is going to have some sort of influence on you.

i can say this for certain, because sometimes i get earworm hymns stuck in my head and believe they have a positive influence on my thoughts and actions.

it's virtually impossible to have impure thoughts while "are you washed in the blood of the lamb" is playing in your head on a loop.

<they're just playing a character

<it's just art

the medium being music makes it different from other forms of art, like literature and paintings.

you don't get a painting stuck at the forefront of your mind for hours, or the quote of some villain in a book.

I'm a huge, huge fan of them.

If you do not find divine beauty in art and do not end up giving actions of grace to God, but rather you are distracted away from Him, then don't listen to it.

As far as I'm concerned, DG is kino.

Their lyrics are rough at times, but you have to see their point…

For instance, the track "Fuck Me Out" is anything but a glorification of sexuality, on the contrary, it disgusts you on purpose, and the punchline is

>Fuck well-well, fuck our will, we're idiot

I also appreciate the violence and rawness of their music, it reminds me a lot of the violence and rawness of most of the Scriptures, but also of the righteous anger and violence that we must show toward the demons that attack us, and besides, it is with strength and passion that we must worship God.

I also have my share of mental illnesses and intense feelings, so I really love their music. How DG sounds like, including their lyrics, is how I feel all the time.

Which tracks are your favorites, OP?

>Full Moon

>The Fever

>Stockton

>Come Up And Get Me

>Artificial Death in the West

>Up My Sleeves

>On GP

>Anne Bonny

>Interview B

>Hot Head

>Warping

The plot thickens!

I don't think I have much to add that hasn't been said before, but for the most part I agree with >>590864 and his other posts in that there is a beauty and appreciation for the uncut and raw nature of the music. I remember vaguely a text interview they did for some magazine where they essentially said that they believe they seem completely different outside of their music and it acts as more of an outlet to release and cleanse themselves of their anger and to paint pictures of disgusting things that don't seem to lean towards praise, such as Fuck Me Out, PSS PSS and Have A Sad Cum which depicts these sexual acts as emotionless, worthless, and just gross like Orthobro said.

I think the thing that really sells me is in the Pitchfork interview, MC Ride sounds like a completely different person and is a lot more coherent and tame, and in the little that he says he seems to have a beef with "surface reality" and what everyone else is doing, being inspired by no one but themselves and what they feel. Their whole shtick seems to be messing with the fans and whatever is prominent in popular culture and doing the opposite. They cancelled an entire nationwide tour to work on an album they wanted to finish by the end of the year until their record label told them that they won't release it until next year, so what do they do? Leak it themselves early and get fired from the label, just to stay true to their wishes. This isn't true for a lot of other artists, obviously.

Is Death Grips as traditional as Gregorian chant and Christian enough to replace your collection of cheesy evangelical rappers? Probably not. Is it inherently bad to listen to and offers no productive value, let alone spiritual value? I don't think so. This is true for a lot of artists, but let's focus on Death Grips. I think they have a message, albeit a chaotic one, to truly go against modern society and do what you want. None of the fake nu-punk "be rebellious, do whatever you want to do, be free… just be sure to vote for HRC!" crap, it is a legitimate message to not be a sheep to what everyone else is doing, even if other people don't like it, even if Death Grips wouldn't like it. So what say you, Baptistfriend? Do you think you can take this message of being your own independent person and really not caring what others think of what you're doing, how you act, what you truly believe, and everything else; and apply it to not letting any of the mainstream sex fiends and corporate monsters overrun you, and use it to strengthen your faith that is slowly becoming more and more niche and "weird" as secularism is on the rise? I'm sure you could.

This

Are you guys serious about DG being ok? Or is this just memery? Of all the contemporary musicians to pick, you pick the most outrageously occult of the bunch. Ride has literally covered his body head to toe in flagrantly satanic imagery. I don't know what to say. Hey, I guess you guys like the beats, the production, whatever. I'll admit they are pretty cutting edge in that respect. Is it worth it? Seriously lads, this is some next-level doublethink.

There is quite a large difference between nudity in art, namely in sculptures and the like, and to create something to not only lead people into sin, but to make a mockery of what God made undefiled (Hebrews 13:4)

that band is a straight pagan/satanic one. They praise chaos and destruction, not God or beauty.

just look at that singer's tattoos. What you and people like >>590877 are doing is twisting satanism as some sort of ironical thing you want to purge at the same time you

contemplate it for what it is.

You are acting for the pleasure of the body. If you can't quit this kind of music then have to meditate, for you are living to earthly pleasures.

If art is not edifying then it's pleasure for the flesh. And this is honestly one of the worst kind of """"artistic"""" pleasure one could have.

Ironical self destructive hedonist ramblings are not "lovely".

I've been thinking about this and I believe that those musicians are doing it intentionally because they legitimately believe in it. It's not like if they're winging it once spontaneously for the first time. When you consider the fact that they practice and redo that song several times, only to do enormous paperwork to distribute it to millions at the end, then it indicates that they are very legitimate about it.

A lot of people dismiss it because they aren't musicians, but if they were, then they would realize the amount of serious effort placed into composing a song.

The character of MC Ride has never been something appreciable. He's the embodiment of a lot of philosophical problems that popped up as we strayed from God, namely what we're going to do now that our purpose is self-decided and the games of power are our means to it. That said, some of their stuff really hits close to home for me.

>Say Hey Kid is an on-point musical description of both the drug problems of my youth and the larger issues with the opiate drug crisis

>Beware and Culture Shock both depict the current state of affairs now that we've abandoned God: our world has been reduced to self-imposed dystopia, and our protagonist little more than a raving madman consumed by his own lust and power

>Artificial Death in The West, No Love, and Have a Sad Cum all describe the intensity of sex addiction and how unrestrained sexual urges dehumanize to man behind MC Ride.

>Houdini talks about the prevalence of pickup culture and casual sex ('swipe//all right all right') with gross contempt

I'd say they're worth a listen and definitely not for everyone. If you take their themes to heart, you're gonna run into problems, but if you take it at arm's length and see it for what it is, you should be fine.
